Sorry if this has been posted already.

According to Softpedia the offer expires Tomorrow. Saturday,7/19/14 at 2:00 PM PST, But the Bit Defender page says it expires in 2 days.

Hopefully a credit card is not required to receive it and it does not trigger the notorius Avanquest Auto Renewal.

    Link is on this page:

    http://news.softpedia.com/news/Soft...tdefender-Internet-Security-2015-451180.shtml

It does appear to be free of auto renewal because Softpedia says it is Softpedia's offer:

"We are giving away an unlimited number of keys without any competition, so everybody wins. The license availability is 9 months. All you have to do is access this landing page and follow the instructions."

Offer seems totally legit with no strings -- give them your email address and they instantly send you the 9 month license key.

It's Avanquest, Bit-Defender's Sales Processor that has the language with a box you must check and agree to an auto renewal.(Which they claim you can cancel later). But I guess a careful read of the license in the 9 month free edition wouldn't hurt.

The email says you can start using your key immediately but does not say you MUST start using the key immediately.

    NOTE: The email states:

    "How do I Activate?

During installation, you will be asked for your license key. Simply insert the 7-character code provided earlier in this email. To finalize the activation, log in to your free MyBitdefender account, during the Getting Started stage.

Tyically this step can be skipped I believe."

I currently use BD IS 2015 and I can skip the account page, perhaps because I already set up an account to activate my current key. I honestly do not recall if I had to do that. And if there was anything about auto renewal in setting up my account or having to leave a credit card number I never would have activated the key."

This is running well here. And BD has none of my personal info.

But I don't think these licenses will keep on a shelf or are stack-able.

    Anybody know different?

Well clearly they can't be stacked - other wise peeps could spend the next 14 hours or whatever time is actually left to set up enough seperate email accounts for a VERY long free license period. Shelving is a totally diffferent issue and that issue is totally unclear.

I agree. Now about shelving guess that's a wait & see. Unless there's an official BD statement already.

LOL :) In my email list, the email immediately preceding the email containing the 9 month free license is an email from BitDefender entitled "$24.95 Limited Time Offer - Antivirus Product of the Year!" offering a 12 month license to BD IS for $24.95 for existing Bit Defender Customers only," It was sent 6 hours ago.

They know my license expires in about a month :)

That's funny. I think BD is trying to take over the AV/Security/Suite business. Their marketing is insane with offers all over the place. From Free Promo Licenses to FAR Licenses to Discounted Licenses to Heavily Discounted AR Licenses to Insanely High Retail Licenses. Not to mention BD licenses their definitions & engines to hundreds of rebadgers/corporations worldwide.

    Edit: Found here
    http://sharewareonsale.com/s/bitdefender-internet-security-sale

"You must get your license key before this offer has ended and activate/register that key within 30 days"

Different website but I wouldn't doubt this applies.

Thanks for that info. -It rings accurate.

Respecting your remarks about BD, they have a long way to go. Eugene Kaspersky has publicly made the commitment to be the largest seller in the US.

The main competitor is Avast's free solution that really does own the market,

In many aspects it was this month rated higher than Kaspersky and Bitdefender by PC mag

Bit Defender, while having a first-rate product, has a very low name recognition among the mass market and the free 9 month license deal is a smart step in a long-term marketing plan.

I see that one of our own has spread the word to Bit Defender's Forums. I wonder if BD will appreciate that and it's guaranteed to ~ Snipped as per TOS ~ a lot of BD Forum readers who have recently renewed or otherwise already purchased a license, LOL

Um, not sure now, maybe it's the KIS Forum where I have seen this always helpful poster before. I know that he has more than once taken the time to help me with issues I have posted. He always has helpful and constructive responses.

I have also been having a positive reaction to BD IS. My PC remains fast, responsive, and fast on the internet.

I had tried it last month, because it appeared to be preventing Windows 8 from fully booting, but yesterday I reinstalled it because for some reason, for no stated reason KIS was preventing me from fully viewing some of my favorite legitimate websites. When I first installed BD IS it appeared to be not allowing Windows 8 from fully booting. But it turned out this was not the case. It was that just on the first reboot with BD IS installed it took several minutes for Windows 8 to be fully functional. After the first reboot it boots fine.

Surprisingly, in an multi-product review on PC mag's website I read yesterday, despite doing fine on all independent tests they participate in, on the reviewers own set of malicious downloads, Kaspersky, Bit-Defender, and Symantec did fairly poorly, blocking only approximately 78% of the malicious URLS from downloading their load.

FWIW" Active Poster on BD Forums says "Like all BD Licenses it must be activated within 30 days of receipt."

    FWIW:

Yesterday I mentioned that while BD always shows excellent results on test administered by the well-known a/v testing organiaztions that on PC Mag's own testing the results were less than stellar. I believe that KIS 2015 had similarly somewhat disappointing results.

    "Malicious URL Blocking

Thanks to a real-time feed supplied by MRG-Effitas, I have access to a continually updated list of malicious URLs. I use these to check how each antivirus product handles extremely new threats. Does it block access to the URL, wipe out the downloaded malware, or just sit there doing nothing?

Bitdefender completely blocked access to 18 percent of the live malicious URLs I used for testing, but didn't wipe out any of the downloads that got through. It might well have caught those on launch, but that's not what this test measures. I've run two dozen products through this test so far, each with URLs no more than four hours old. The average protection rate is 33 percent, almost twice what Bitdefender managed........

    Good Malware Blocking

I rely more and more on the independent labs for in-depth antivirus testing, but I always need to do my own hands-on testing, to get a feel for the product's protection. To start, I opened a folder containing my just-gathered new set of malware samples. Bitdefender quickly and quietly wiped out 83 percent of those samples.

Next I launched the remaining samples and noted the antivirus's reaction. It completely missed several, ending up with an overall detection rate of 86 percent and an overall score of 8.4 points. Kaspersky, the only other product tested with this exact same sample collection, earned 7.9 points........

    AntiPhishing

Judging from the results of my antiphishing test, Bitdefender does a really good job of spotting phishing sites. For this test I use newly reported sites that are suspected of being fraudulent, but not yet verified. Norton does a consistently good job of detecting phish, so I report results in relation to Norton's detection of the exact same URLs. Out of products tested recently, 90 percent scored worse than Norton. With a detection rate 5 percent better than Norton's, Bitdefender is the current antiphishing champ."

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2460688,00.asp

Yesterday there was a front page article which compared all the A/Vz.

There were 4 Editor's Choices: Bit Defender, Webroot, Norton, and Kaspersky. Kaspersky 2015 was a new addition to the list. The author states that he uses Norton.

The products named as Editor's Choices were the 2015 versions of Bit Defender and Kaspersky, Norton 2014, it is unclear which version of Webroot was included but I am pretty sure it was the latest version.

Good Afternoon! Just took advantage of the nine mth offer...hats off to softpedia...and hawki...found the install smooth...and the configuration I found too be much more user friendly. Like the ease of use factor...in setting up scans...and the Safepay...privacy app for banking. So far it's been a lag free surfing experience...over all the product engineering seems to have been improved. So far So good! Bitdefender I.S.2015...might just be a keeper. Sincerely...Securon

Hello Securon. I was wondering what browser you use. I replaced another AV with BIS 2015 and I think I notice some slowdown with Chrome. Maybe just my imagination though, as the 2014 slowed browsing down. Thanks.

Thank you both. I haven't used Firefox for awhile. Maybe I'll install it and see how BIS does using it. One more question. How do I enter a new license? I'm using a 6 month trial offer, and of course, I would like to use the 9 month license now. Would the BD uninstall tool remove that license info if I went that root? Thanks and take care.

Waiting 2-weeks is ok - you have 30-days to activate BDIS from the time it was issued (after that your key won't work)!
