Some of the actual money that the high sub'ed channels make has been disputed over the years. Make no mistake they're making more than 3 generations of what an average person would make in their lifetime, but to my knowledge there's no exact figure what they make verbatim (one reason being they can't disclose that information because of terms, the other because not every view=a video ad).

YouTube has been one of the most dreaded place in the whole internet for me since ~2011. These days they give me NSFW thumbnails (yes that's still happening) and politics. Really, if there's a better place to go, I'll be more than happy enough to ignore that website.

I've been following the development of this site for half a year or so: http://www.vstreamers.com/ Of course any video site is only visited for its content (something where no one can ever beat Youtube) but for a smaller site just starting up it's not bad. They've got competent admins you can actually get a reply from, and you can suggest features and stuff. Their videos are HTML5 by default, which is nice cause I'd love to get rid of Adobe Flash Player.

My only fear is that smaller video upload sites are going to be attacked by copyright claims right and left, and cause they don't have the legal department or manpower compared to the other top 100 internet sites (like Youtube, or Twitch now, both owned by Google) they have a higher chance of being shut down. I'm hope I'm wrong though, and I hope we finally start seeing some real competition.

Twitch is also owned by Google? I didn't realize it before.

Anyway, thanks for that. Although anything that I need to search for didn't give me any result, so apparently I am stuck with YT. Dailymotion is actually rather forgiving, but the sources I need to watch are also not fully available there.
