Want to get My MP3's back :(

I don't know why I did this? because I usually don't bother, but the other day I tested out WinUtilities, and I didn't notice that My data drive D: had been selected also for disk cleaning. As a result 259GB of MP3's Gone! and I tried Recuva but with no luck it told me most were unrecoverable I decided to try Raxco PerfectFileRecovery, but this thing wont let you recover unless you buy it, which I don't wish to do, only to find out it's not worked anyway. Is there any program that anyone knows of, that can do the job?

 

Your d drive is a partition or a separate drive? Clone it first and limit activity. Use isobuster. Make sure it's not installed on drive your recovering from and perform recovery from a different drive.

if you manage to get those recovered get a USB hard drive and make a backup of them.
and store it to a different physical location in case your house burns down or something.

you probably have MANY thousands of $ worth of music in there.

 

DVD+R, before you try my above mentioned free data recovery software, use the undelete utility from inside WinUtilities itself. If this is the software you used, then if you notice that under the "Privacy and security" tab, it has a "file undelete" option. I believe the software should be able to undelete the files that it itself had deleted previously.

Also, make sure that you do not write to that partition now or if you have a defragmentor enabled, disable it at once.

If this does not work, try the EaseUS or iCare data recovery, they should be able to recover simply deleted mp3 files.

 

You have True Image in your signature?? Any chance you imaged that drive?

 

Think I've totally screwed up I did a wipe free space with ccleaner on that drive, what puzzles me is that WinUtilities also cleaned my E: drive and yet all my mkv and mp4 movie files are still intact! so how come it deleted the mp3's and left the movies ? and yes these are separate hard drives not partitions on a single drive. Also WinUtilities undeleted was unsuccessful

 

If you did a wipe free space, which will overwrite all deleted data, then there is not much you can do ... All those tools won't help you.

 

If you wiped free space after deleting the MP3s from that drive then unfortunately there is no chance of recovering the data with these free software based tools. The wipe process overwrites each sector of free space, which in this case were your mp3 files.

As to why WinUtilites deleted your mp3s, I do not know. Normally no drive cleaning software will delete media files like mp3, avi etc, unless it was specifically told to do so. Open the drive cleaner settings inside WinUtilities and check to see if it was configured to delete mp3 files. You might have accidentally set a custom filter over there.

 

Your data is permanently deleted.
You deleted it with WinUtilities and then did a wipe free space, that is overwriting the "empty" space multiple times.

 

Thank the Gods for that I remembered I had copied about 176GB to DVD's so I just have to remember what the other 83GB's was and re- download them pain in the ~ Snipped ~ I know but I think I can remember

that's about 40 DVDs, if they are not double layers.
like I said before, it would be better to get an external USB drive and store it in a secure place, at a friend's or bank safety box.
if the OP said he originally had 269 GB of mp3s, that means roughly 25 000$ worth of music.

anyway, this much money worth of mp3s is worth spending a few dollars on a good backup solution.

 

roughly something like that yes, 2127 Full CD Albums so far I've restored 107GB and that's 1176 Albums
