now that form fillers and password remembering apps or programs are so popular, is it best to browse to a safe page like for example your homepage and THEN press the login button to log u into your site or is it just as safe practice to just click and login from ANY page...... i am mostly speaking about roboform cos thats what i mostly use, but this could easily apply to most other types of similar software.......

If neither are exploit pages, then all risk should remain close the same.

    To put it better:

Is there a risk to using form fillers eg jack credentials/forms?
    Yes.

Can form fillers negate risk eg phishing?
    Yes.

Is there increased risk when browsing random pages while in a banking/secure session?
    Yes.

Or better yet, use either something far more secure like KeePass or just stop being lazy and enter the login data manually. Just please don't be stupid and let your browser do the remembering.

@garry35: Are you asking if a malicious website could get your master password as you type it?

I'm not quite sure what the OP wants. Is he asking if it's better to get to the site via a bookmark instead of a link from a different site? I suppose I'd trust the bookmark more, but these programs offer a basic level of phishing protection. I mean, if you're not on the right site it won't fill the forms.

Maybe this is a related topic: I prefer to have it only log in when I say so.

For one thing, it's not always correct about which box is for the username and which is the password. For example, on a web page for my router, when I had it enter automatically it would overwrite the wi-fi password with the router password since the "site" is the router. Also you get the flexibility of only entering the password, which is very helpful in some cases (like when you change a password).

i mean is there any risk of the form filler leaving traces of the data used for filling in etc. on your computer where in theory malicious progs can access it.

It seems to me that whether or not the browser retains information is separate from how the data is entered. In other words I don't know that it matters whether you type it in or use Roboform to fill the forms. I use LastPass and have the browser password managers disabled, but that's different than form data. I run Ccleaner to clear form data from IE, Opera and Firefox.
