InPrivate Filtering - Microsoft Internet Explorer

I have found that InPrivate filtering does an very good job of filtering unwanted Web content from Web Pages.

By default, Inprivate Filtering is set to: Automatically block
I suggest leaving it at the default setting.

If one wants to modify the automatic rule creation, simply click on "Choose content to block or allow"
This action will convert all the automatically blocked rules to: Undecided (Block or Allow)
From there, one can customize the Rules.

NOTE: After customizing the rules, be sure to leave "Choose content to block or allow" Enabled and click OK,
then re-enter InPrivate Filtering and change it back to the Default: "Automatically block"
There are two reasons for doing this:

One: after customizing the rules, by leaving "Choose content to block or allow" Enabled and clicking OK, results in
InPrivate Filtering saving the customized rules and copying the customized rules to an permanent location within
Internet Explorers "Manage Add-ons". If one does not customize and save the rules, then InPrivate Filtering will
not save the customized list of rules, and no permanent rules are created within Internet Explorers "Manage Add-ons"

Two: if after customizing the rules, one changes InPrivate Filtering back to "Automatically block" and clicks OK,
results in InPrivate Filtering not saving the customized list of rules, and not copying the customized list of rules
permanently into Internet Explorers "Manage Add-ons.

By default, before InPrivate Filtering automatically creates an Rule to block unwanted Web content, the unwanted
Web content must be shared by at least three (3) Websites before an "Blocked" rule is created.

OK good, but would it not be better if InPrivate Filtering filtered unwanted Web content on an per site visit? Yes!

SOLUTION:
One: The list of automatically created Block rules created by InPrivate Filtering are stored in:
\Your Account\PrivacIE\index.dat

This is the list one sees when clicking on:
Web Browser Tool Bar/Safety/InPrivate Filter Settings/

The index.dat file can be deleted manually or from Internet Explorers Internet Options:
Web Browser Tool Bar/Tools/Internet Options/Delete.../Delete Browsing History/InPrivate Filtering Data

Either way, the list of automatically created block rules within InPrivate Filter Settings will be cleared to an
fresh start. The customized list permanently saved within Internet Explorers Manage Add-ons will be left intact:
Web Browser Tool Bar/Safety/InPrivate Filter Settings/Advanced settings/

Two: With an fresh start and leaving InPrivate Filtering set at the Default: "Automatically block"
allow an list to be created for an while, an day or two.

Three: Customize the automatically created block list to: Block

Four: From Internet Explorers Manage Add-ons "EXPORT" the customized list to:
InPrivate_Filtering_Export.xml (suggested name) then click Close then click OK

Five: From Internet Explorers Manage Add-ons click "Delete all" to clear the permanently saved list,
then click Close then click OK

Six: Delete the PrivacIE\index.dat from: \Your Account\PrivacIE\index.dat to clear the automatically saved list.

Seven: From Internet Explorers Manage Add-ons "IMPORT" the InPrivate_Filtering_Export.xml
then click Close then click OK

The result of this procedure converts the "Content" from the "Content provider" in the "Automatically block" list
within the InPrivate Filtering Settings to an "Standalone Permanent Rule" within Internet Explorers Manage Add-ons
without the "Content provider". The final results are shown in the Picture below.

To update the Manage Add-ons permanent list in the future, simply repeat this procedure again.

You do mean using Tracking Protection or TPL's

 

InPrivate filtering is the old version of TPLs for IE8 which is entirely controlled by the user. With IE9 and above, you can use TPLs AND customize your own personal list within the browser.

I guess he's posting this for anyone crazy enough to be using an old version of IE.
