    Hello,

I cannot comment on the hibernation issue as I do not use it and in fact have it disabled. I am happy to report that on my Windows 8.1.1 Pro 64 bit system, testing of sleep by both manually activating it and letting my system go into sleep mode automatically, I have seen no issues and all works as expected. Thanks to Robin A. and Cruise for their replies.

I can't find where anymore, but saw someone mention that you can lock down a lot of SD's would-be possible holes by removing the pagefile altogether and using only physical RAM, as long as no other important apps depend on needing a pagefile. I don't even know if it was in this thread, but it makes sense for it to be, so...

And someone else asked if clearing the virtual memory pagefile was enough? The person responded: "if you have enough time to... what if they're kicking down your door before you realize it." But I assume the person asking the question meant having it set up (through Local Policy) to clear the virtual memory pagefile on shutdown. In that case all you'd have to do is yank the plug out. It doesn't even have to be shutdown properly. After there's no more power going into that box for 1 minute... it's gone. So even if you let the feds unhook your box and take it away by hand, it's cleared.

So to answer that persons question I'd say yes, that's an effective measure, providing you're talking about the same LP tweak that I am.

My goodness, what are you guys doing on those computers that brings about such paranoia? If by 'pagefile' you are referring to SD's write-cache, then no, you can't remove it; but it is encrypted and it's automatically deleted everytime shadow mode is closed-out. Furthermore, by allocating sufficient RAM for SD's write-cache you can preclude those writes to disk and since RAM is volatile there would be no possibility of recovering that cache after power-down. In my use of SD, where I only protect my system volume, I allocate 2GB of RAM for its write-cache, which I have found to be ample over the 'heaviest' of any computing day.

I'm curious as to why you don't just encrypt the pagefile? And you can encrypt SD's write cache, too. But you can tell SD to use RAM, and how much to use.

For Shadow defender, I prefer not to use any of the latest versions. I think its better you get the information you want from someone who is actually using the latest version. But if you like, I ll download it, check the MD5/SHA1 and post it here.

Camelia, I get the same MD5 at Virus total than I get at Jotti.

Sorry, I missed your question about why I don't use the latest versions. Its not that I don't trust them, its just that I prefer LV as its always being. This new features that are being developed into SD are not something that I want. For my personal case use, the earlier versions are better. Perhaps if I used SD for security then I would like this features but I don't use SD for security. I am using .346 in both, XP and W7.

By the way, Viva Mejico and Argentina in the World cup.

    No, I am not.

And I'm also not paranoid, it's just a matter of principal. Just like if I want to pull the blinds in my house, I don't feel I owe anyone an explanation as to why I'm doing so, or have to prove that I "have nothing to hide" if I want to do it. Even if all I'm doing is watching Youtube videos about paint drying and grass growing, I feel I'm entitled to do it with privacy and anonymity... just because. Because it's a constitutional right for one thing. And for another, again, on principal alone. Also because I know that once you start giving away those proverbial inches they will take a mile.

Too many of you are oblivious to this big picture... intentionally or otherwise. If it weren't for some healthy paranoia those proverbial miles would have already been taken from us long ago, and nobody would kick up any fuss about it. You should be thankful for all those tin foil hat wearing people you condescendingly mock. Without them apps like Shadow Defender wouldn't exist. In fact they'd probably be irrelevant because the internet would be completely regulated and censored by "the man" by now.

For members of The Official Shadow Defender Forum and Wilders members who mentioned that when they visited the forum it was down.
I use a free hosting which is a bit erratic and now and again it gives the site as unavailable. Usually the connection is back within a minute or two.
I would suggest that any one who is intending to post to the forum use an external editor (such as notepad) to write your post (especially if it's a long post and you are thinking as you go) then copy and paste when you have finished composing so that you do not lose your work if the host loses the connection.
I hope that this is helpful in some way.

Isn't encrypting the pagefile enough? Or do you not trust this option in Windows? I have always assumed that it works.

    I also get 50584f927a69a1fecc234c3d7b05ebf4 (MD5) both for a file downloaded 25/4/2014, and today 28/6/2014.
    Using GtkHash.

Tony has in the past changed a file , but not this file in the last few months.

I just downloaded a fresh installer for SD1.4.0.519_Setup.exe. After uploading this installer at Virus total, I get what you posted above for MD5. I still have the Virus total link from two days ago, the results that day were what I posted a few posts back. I downloaded both installers from the Shadow defender site. If you or Patrick would like to see the link to the Virus total scan from two days ago, let me know.
