robots.txt has nothing to do with adding a site to search engines. It basically tells bots/spiders what parts of your site are off-limits and define crawler speed for allowed bots. Typically it's used to block certain bots using the "Disallow" directive... of course, malicious bots/scrapers don't really care about robots.txt, but it's a nice tool to use for bots that actually respect it (I tend to block the others). You might want to check out submitting for the big 3:

You don't need to do anything.
    Let your site be.

Shouldn't this be more into the job for SEO plugins instead? Hey, don't look at me. I've never been really serious in webmastering.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_engine_optimization

Search Engine Optimizer plugins are usually being used in blogs and forum sites. I do believe that most forum software nowadays already have built-in SEO, no idea about blogging software. Although additional plugins can still be used to enhance the rank of your webpage in popular search engines. Other than blogs and forums, I don't know if there are such plugins for other types of websites.
