Both Bitdefender 2014 as well as EAM 9.0 use bdcore.dll version 11.0.1.12. So both are using the latest version and always have been as far as I know as we use exactly the same update repository as Bitdefender does.

The reason why we don't support "cure" as in disinfecting files that have been infected by an actual virus is because it isn't reliable. In addition to that, we also have to provide cleaning support for detections that our engine finds. As a direct result of both we decided to implement our own cleaning.

No, we still don't find imaginary rootkits.

Fabian, does Emsisoft 9 uses "advanced caching" in file guard module? I know it is fast and you guys did everything to optimize this version, but why EAM did so "bad" in Av comparatives May Performance test (8.1) ?

    Thanks :).

We haven't had a lot of time to look into those results yet due to the beta and release of EAM 9.0. In general I don't think the File Guard is the culprit in those specific tests. If it were, then the file copy performance would have been lower. For the installations there could be a conflict between the way they perform the test and our software. If I remember correctly they use automated and silent installations. The silent aspect makes it more likely to trigger behavior blocker notifications, that may result in cloud lookups. You may have noticed that cloud queries can be quite slow, so they can cause a significant delay during performance testing. We will try to improve the look up speed in one of the next versions. I haven't looked into the Open Office performance yet, due to lack of time.

We still have to finish EIS 9.0 first ;).

I know what you were talking about. You were talking about your review where you shouted rootkit during half of the video because a Babylon toolbar installer was misqualified by one of your tools as a rootkit. You went on and on about it in our forums and kept insisting it was a rootkit, although plenty of people tried to explain to you that there was no rootkit at all. That is why I said, that the behavior blocker still won't pick up imaginary rootkits.

So far, I think EAM 9 is a fantastic security product. I've always used free AV and FW options, and have indeed used EEK as a 'second opinion' scanner for a long time now, going way back to the 'A-squared' version! I take my hat off to establishments like Emsisoft who provide such gratis services in the name of online security.
Tempted by the introductory offer on the new EAM, I am, for the first time, the proud runner (?) of a paid AV! No more is Emsisoft my 'second opinion', but now is my primary warm-fuzzy-glow-of-safety.

i take rootkits seriously as you know as serious as a fire alarm ringing in a building am not saying its a rootkit now but at the time it was petty scary when a tool tells you its a rootkit

What does happen when Emsisoft detects a virus in a system file? Can it replace files?

Mine updated to v9 but sometimes the tray icon is red. Everything is enabled. Right click on the tray icon shows me the enable and disable protection status but enable doesn't do anything as it's already enabled.
I've come across it a few times and if I restart the pc it fixes it.

It's quite a pain as it needs checking every time I notice it, thinking somethings wrong.

My tray icon became orange until I opened EIS from tray. Then it turned green again. What's up with that?

Oh yes! It's causing an application i use to remote to work to fail and eventhough i add it to exclusions in the popup, it does the very same thing on the next attempt to remote so i have to shutdown 9.0 while doing it.

Anyway to shut of the cloud lookup? :)

Go to Protection/Behavior Blocker and disable "Community based alert reduction".

Thank you, it was driving me nuts, hopefully it will be faster somewhere down development road. :)

I have a question about EAM.
If I enable "Surf Protection", Can my internet-speed slow down?

I have a suggestion if I may, could you add a "clear password" button in the permissions area? I don't see any way to reset it back to no password.

No. In general the Surf Protection won't interfere with your internet speed.

You can just set an empty password to remove it.
