What is your security setup these days?

Just switched my homepage and default search engine to Startpage. Not really due to privacy concerns, but because Google and Bing have become annoying to use.

Guys I need inputs please. Since Chrome doesn't need to (and shouldn't) be protected by EMET, I'm quite unsure if I should be using EMET. There are other high-risk software (players, viewers, office... y'know) I use but I have no idea if the same condition of Chrome is applicable with them as well. What am I supposed to do here?

As I understand, most vulnerabilities that are mitigated by EMET end up with some kind of executable file being launched. If you remove EMET and use SRP you would still have protection against unwanted execution, wouldn't you?

I think it's great. I believe this setup must be strong and light. Isn't it?

If you want to add more you can try MBAE or EMET.

Good Morning! Darts!...I'm using the latest version of Avira A/V Suite...14.0.4.672. I think based on your query...Much Quicker...is your reason for asking. As we both know everyone's set up varies...and on my system it is quicker...than the previous version...how much is the question...and that's my answer...Lol! Sincerely...Securon

I do believe that as well. IMO my current SRP setup (though I prefer to use AppLocker if I could) + UAC on max + DEP on all give me virtually the same level protection as AppGuard. But EMET is just interesting and seems to be a good idea.

  10. Windows 7 Ultimate extra security policies (with NAS for backup):
    • Block riskware services and unknown outbound firewall connections
    • Deny elevation & installation of unsigned executables and drivers
    • Deny execute in all non UAC protected folders for Basic Users
    • Deny execution of Windows/VB/Power-scripts for Basic Users
    • Deny execute access to HKCU/USB autoruns for Basic Users
Additional intrusion mitigation for threat gates:
    • Run Outlook and WMP as Basic User with secure zone settings, using EMET-protection
and ACL deny execute for Everyone in media and mail (+ OLK) folders
    • Run Chrome sandbox with white listed plug-ins and extensions, using ųBlock extension
and switch on/off deny download of executables in Internet Zone

It seems that different versions of Windows OS will have different folder permission structures. How do you know which folders have user writable permission? With AccessEnum?

    Hello Securon,

The reason i ask is because you maybe use the Beta 5 update , i also run the 4.672 version and it is running very smooth too me too. But the people complain at this moment that the Beta 5 update isn't ok at this moment.

    Greats,

    darts

Good Morning! Darts! I was last week briefly a part of Avira's Beta program...for the soon to be released Avira A/V Pro Product. But because of the fact it was a Beta Product it was too buggy for my liking...and I purchased as previously mentioned a license for the Avira A/V Suite. Now from my perspective...the Connection to the Network during Boot Up is still Slow in intitializing...improved but still lacking. The second improvement needs to see some sort of Cacheing or Digital Fingerprinting introduced to significantly reduce scanning times, most markedly when a Full System Scan is initiated. Out of concern to me; is your finding problems with the Beta 5 update...could you elaborate as to what is currently buggy with this update...it would be appreciated. Sincerely...Securon
