Paritioning Tool for Sliding Partitions VMware Virtual Machine

What Partitioning Software would you recommend for Sliding Partitions (Windows Server 2012 R2 64 bit) in a VMware Virtual Machine?

I know that BootIt Bare Metal has the slide option. I have no experience with sliding partitions.

I've been using MiniTool Partition Wizard for quite a while... I believe both the FREE and PAID versions do this just nicely.

When using the "Move/Resize" option, if there is space on one or both sides of the partition in question, you may use that space to expand into or move (aka "slide") into. Of course the active system partition cannot be moved while running from it, but the OffLine media can do that just fine.

A few years ago I did something similar in a Microsoft Virtual Machine. I had BING installed (in the VM) with multiple OS and data partitions. All BING functions, including Slide, were operational.

 

I don't have much experience at all with VM's.

However, yesterday I decided to use a spare VM to test BootIt Bare Metal. The Windows Server 2012 R2 64 bit OS
was on a 80 GB partition with no free unallocated space.

I did the following:

1. Increased the size of the VM to about 250 GB.
2. Created and formatted an 80 GB data partition using Windows Disk Management.
3. Copied ~40 GB of files to the newly created 80 GB data partition.
4. Used the Slide option in BootIt Bare Metal to move the newly created data partition to the end (no unallocated space after the partition). I used the default Slide option to only move the data. It took around 2 to 3 minutes for the Slide operation to complete.
5. Extended the OS partition (using Windows Disk Management) to use all of the adjacent unallocated space. The Extend operation only took a couple of seconds.

I used Windows explorer to browse around in the data on the data partition and everything seems to be OK.

I conclude that BootIt Bare Metal was successful.

 

TK, the sliding of the data partition would have been much faster if you had done it BEFORE you copied the 40gB of data to it

 

The reason that I copied the ~40 GB of data to the partition was to see about how long it would take to slide a data partition which contained data. I wanted to have a rough idea of the rate of slide of a partition containing data (GB/minute).
