Alternative to Freemake Video Converter

Ever since version 4.0.4, an additional promotional frame is added to every video converted longer than 5 minutes. That is bearable for videos that I convert for other devices, but not the ones I want to keep and share (somehow VLC and laziness prevented me from seeing this earlier).

Other than the usual stuff every one of them should have (like wide support of formats), what I'm looking for is:
* Nvidia CUDA support (or at least multi-threading).
* Adjustable file size (don't give me that bitrate stuff).
* Lets me choose which audio/subs to keep.

Is there a viable freeware alternative? Or should I wait for a giveaway? Or revert back to the old version? Any assistance appreciated, thanks.

It has Target Filesize (MB) under Advanced, uses all my cores, and is portable to boot. Might be just what I'm looking for, but can you specify max video size instead of exact video size? Cause I want to avoid upscaling and extra work, although Original works most of the time. Plus, it doesn't support CUDA, so I won't have full performance.

Nope, doesn't have it. CUDA is blanked out, not sure why (running under SBIE).

 

Just looked at iWisoft Free Video Converter, Format Factory, and Pazera Video Converters Suite, none fits the critera. Not gonna bother going through the entire list.

 

Found almost just what I'm looking for, MediaCoder Full Edition. It has all requirements and more, but is a bit complex and doesn't have built-in device presets. But still, it is good enough to replace Freemake Video Converter on my machine, until someone suggests something better.

*Nevermind, GPU acceleration nag. Froze on transcoding a subtitled MKV, not sure how it handles subtitles, but I like how Freemake encodes them into the video so they can e played by any device.
*Actually it was 4k video nag, although I'm not supposed to have "Supporting GPU accelerated H.264 encoding". Being stuck had to do with my choice of GPU accelerated-encoding it seems.

 

OK, it doesn't support subtitles on the output file. That is unacceptable for, so back to Freemake 4.0.3. It is another requirement in case anyone is wondering, I don't want a separate program just to re-add subs.

Thanks, that fits everything except Nvidia CUDA support, which doesn't really make a speed difference on my machine for whatever reason. Although the output options are limited, all my devices are compatible with MP4 anyhow.

Only thing is, I cannot see the difference Default or Burn In subtitles make on VLC (deselected), iPad Mini (auto-selected), Galaxy Note (auto-selected), or Chromebook (none). I will try the installer version later to see if it's fixed, but displaying subtitles on my Chromebook is essential.

 

Burn in doesn't work with UTF-8 (but does with SSA), tried beta. Now VidCoder has a timespan error ever since I tried an NSV file, even after re-downloading it. Plus it remembers the last input, so much for portable.

Have you considered the Freemake Gold Pack?
With Freemake Gold Pack activated there is no additional promotional frame added to every video converted longer than 5 minutes.
Freemake Gold Pack is activate by making a donation, which makes Freemake Video Converter actually donation-ware, I suppose.
I don't know of any minimum limit for donation.

 

I did say freeware right? Maybe if all options are exhausted and the latest version has a killer update.

@Feandur: I'll skip EasyBrake and HandBrake since VidCoder is using the same engine. As for the rest, I'll try later. Thanks.

It was only that I mentioned the Freemake Gold Pack, as a donationware alternative, because you are so enthusiastic about Freemake Video Converter and haven't found a good enough alternative yet, and because perhaps '1 cents donationware' could be almost as nice as freeware.
Don't get me wrong, I love good freeware, and in most cases it's as good as payware or even better, but in a very few cases donationware of payware may the best option.

I really hope you find a good freeware alternative for Freemake Video Converter. As good, or better.

XMedia Recode doesn't support target file size limit option. There is a bitrate calculator included, but I don't think it's what J_L was looking for.

EDIT 2: Nevermind, got it right finally.

 

Sorry, not the issue. The UTF-8 subs were already embedded in the video, but cannot be burnt in by VidCoder while Freemaker works.

Not sure why that would make it crash on encoding, but fixing just that is not enough.

Does that bitrate calculator display target file size? If so, that's fine.

 

Feandur, please make recommendations only if you think they fit my criterias. XMedia Recode is actually the closest to what I'm looking for though (others were far from it), but I would prefer a way to set the bitrate as original or auto.

What is wrong with an older version, say Freemake Video Converter v4.0.2.8? Not being flippant. Do the newer versions work on more formats or something?

For example I'm still using uTorrent 2.04 cause it works without all the bloat. The newer versions of uTorrent sicken me with their bloat.

 

Nothing, for now. But I would like an alternative for future-proofing or better features. Currently using 4.0.3.4 btw.
