I uninstalled Calomel because for some unknown reason it had stopped displaying SSL info, even though my preferences still worked ! I reinstalled an earlier version but discovered the exact same issues ?

I uninstalled that version & did a windows & registry search for Anything related to them. I found various things & deleted them. I then rebooted & reinstalled the earlier version, but the exact same issues remained ! Once again i went through the above processes, but didn't reinstall.

Then in about:config i searched for Calomel & found these settings remaining !

How would i eliminate those, & why would they still be there ?

Right-click on each entry and click Reset. For a slightly faster method, hold down the r button and start right-clicking each entry.

    Hello CloneRanger,

Sorry to hear that! It has been a couple of years since I used it and it used to work well. The developer seems to be active although the last update was back in March...

Just tried it on the 1st line. All it did was set it to Default/String. What i need is to Completely eliminate ALL the entries so i can try a 100% fresh install.

I would have expected that those entries should have gone when i uninstalled it. That's why i'm trying to find out how it is they still remain. Plus so i can reinstall etc.

Keep it simple: Open prefs.js in a text editor and throw them out.

    @ TomAZ

Thanx, that's not compatable with my FF v.

    @ Pinga

    Thanx, i'll try it.

    ******

    So far though,

    Ran firefox -safe-mode & here's what i found

    x.png

But i actually have ALL these installed

    prof.png

1 - Why are they so different ?

    2 - Calomel isn't listed in either ?

about:config & Calomel still shows the SAME items & settings in there as yesterday, including the one i "RESET"

    reset.png

Since rebooting the RESET item has reverted to it's previous setting ?

Any ideas what might be happening ?

I had also big troubles with calomel on a few SSL sites. So, I decided to uninstall it. I remembered that it was hard to remove. Yes, I had the same troubles that even after removing, Calomel extension was still alive, but at this moment, I couldn't remember what I exactely made to fully uninstall it without any trace. I know that I have ECleaner add-on, maybe you can also try it on this way. https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/firefox/addon/ecleaner/

    Hi CloneRanger, my friend,

Finally, I found what I did to remove calomel definitely:

You can check the ssl and tls prefs on the about:config page.
If any ssl or tls pref is bold (user set) then right-click that pref and choose "Reset" to reset the pref to the default value.
Paste this regular expression in the Search bar at the top of the about:config page:

    • /security.*ssl|security.*tls/

This solution fixed my issue, and yours, surely.

    @ Pinga

Thanx, did the prefs.js thing & it worked. Unfortunately when i reinstalled Calomel, the SSL feature still isn't working ? Very strange as this V used to before on this V of FF !

    @ Ashanta

Hi, the ECleaner add-on was mentioned above, & isn't compatable. You didn't get a solution from the MOZ www !

Thanx, i tried the RESET trick earlier on, which worked only until i rebooted.

As i described above, i used the method posted by Pinga to get rid of those persistant entries. But after installing a fresh Calomel the SSL icon is always blacked out on All HTTPS www's & shows NO details etc.

Out of curiosity, i'll try your ssl/tls idea & post back.

I had the same as I told you on my previous post, after rebooting, calomel issue remained.

The instructions I wrote saved me and fixed my issue, try it and you will see.

Also Removed HTTPS-Everywhere ;) This add-on also caused a few troubles for me and you don't need it anymore with the latest versions of Firefox.

CloneRanger, if you delete prefs.js from your Firefox profile folder, all your about:config settings are reset.

You can also create a new Firefox profile and start from 0.

If I was you, I would do one or the other.

I don't know if it would help in your particular situation, but I've found the Preferences Cleaner extension to be a handy tool for automatically cleaning out leftover about:config junk when you uninstall FF addons.

Thanx so far for your help.

I wondered if HTTPS Everywhere was interfering in some way/s, so i uninstalled it along with Calomel. I also eliminated ALL traces of both in prefs.js & my PC.

And i tried the * /security.*ssl|security.*tls/ method, but nothing showed up ! My FF is v3.6.14 if that makes a difference ?

I rebooted & reinstalled Calomel v.61 but it's still black on SSL www's. I don't know what the issue is, or what to do now to get it work again, as it used to ?

    @ bo elam

I only deleted in prefs.js what i stated above. I could build a new Profile, but it would be very time consuming, so if i can fix it, so much the better.

    @ MikeBCda

Got a link to Preferences Cleaner ?

    CloneRanger,

Did you reset all entries found by /security.*ssl|security.*tls/ ? Please try it again and let us knows, and please, avoid to use different methods together. You only need to uninstall Https-Everywhere and reset all the security ssl and tls entries. Please checked it when you re-start FF again if there is no remained entries and please, if you find one, please posted here. I will try it to help you.

The guide steps I told you was only to remove calomel SSL, but as I understand you want to keep calomel SSL.

You really don't need to delete prefs.js

I too would like to hear this notion elaborated/expanded upon. Exactly what changes have rendered HTTPS-Everywhere irrelevant now? And on what version of Firefox did this begin with?

As for Calomel... I'm experiencing no such problems here on FF 28.0

Hi - sorry for the delay, I'd been vainly searching through Mozilla's "official" add-ons catalog before giving up and getting it almost immediately via google. Which implies that it's not officially sanctioned by Mozilla, although it's still showing as active on my FF 30. Check out http://www.ghacks.net/2011/06/01/fi...-remove-add-on-preferences-on-uninstallation/ -- the version I've got is 0.3.2, which is probably as far as it ever got.

You could also take a look at eCleaner, although I'd be a little leery of that one -- it seems to be brand new and still needs major improvements. In particular, from its reviews, it sounds like it sometimes has trouble distinguishing between active and uninstalled stuff.
