Secrets, lies and Snowden's email: why I was forced to shut down Lavabit link

Guardian article by Ladar Levison himself, giving an oversight of his horrifying 'No, you don't have rights, silly citizen' encounter with the US Justice system.
A Kafka-worthy must-read for those interested, in how serious encryption can introduce you to legal-limbo land, where you face the wrath/might of the state, swap cooperation for 'justice' or pull the plug.

I think they met that burden pretty well tonight.
I liked how they also included similar activities about invading your privacy to target ads.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see it. Real life problems got in the way. Is there a transcript of the program available anywhere?

    Apologies.
I don't know why these are dead links, at least so here: site works but clicking part 2 does nothing.
Perhaps they'll function in a day or two or whenever.
Or maybe NSA censored and blocked it :)

This is the way it will keep going I'm afraid. A change in the Presidency won't fix this mess, only the replacement of quite a few strategically placed people and major changes to how the NSA, FBI, and even state law enforcement agencies conduct their business. The continued thinking that a persons digital data is not really theirs, simply because it's stored in bits and bytes on global servers is not helping either. We as users need to stop thinking about Faraday cages, encryption, alternative email (you don't think other nations have intelligence agencies of their own?), etc. If that is all we're going to do while we wait for the government to have a change of heart, then we're only screwing ourselves. In the history of the world, oppression and rights abuses have never successfully been "waited out". People these days too easily "get used to it". Shore up your defenses, of course, but eventually you have to actually get out on the battlefield. Email your representatives, vote for people you want instead of hoping someone else does, write letters. Do something besides hiding behind tools and hoping it'll all just go away. It won't.

I complained initially because I forgot that I have to use Opera (with plugins enabled) instead of SeaMonkey, which is not supported for their videos.

Out of all the releases, this one is the most "no duh!" Afghanistan and Iraq would be assumed to have the kitchen sink thrown at them. Appreciate the effort by WL, but it reeks of a "me too" response. Bahamas was more interesting.

P.S. Yemen would be another, and now, probably some African nations.

Greenwald's Finale: Naming Victims of Surveillance

The man who helped bring about the most significant leak in American intelligence history is
to reveal names of US citizens targeted by their own government in what he promises will be
the “biggest” revelation from nearly 2m classified files.

    Link (drudgereport.com headline)
Greenwald to publish list of Americans NSA spied on...

Which one... Drudge or RCP? It's to bad they don't allow some politics on Wilders , because it is politics
    that's messing with our Privacy/Security.

    Drudge ;)
I don't think that it's "politics". It's those who seek to dominate who won't tolerate others' privacy and security. And it doesn't matter what drives them, whether it's greed or ideology or whatever.

Actually if you followed the link...drudge links to the report on RCP site.

This article originally appeared in the Sunday Times.
Article: Greenwald's Finale: Naming Victims of Surveillance by Toby Harnden.

Toby Harnden is the Washington bureau chief of The Sunday Times.

Whether how accurate/true the article is I don't know.

    As far as those who seek to dominate...many are p _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ . (fill in the blanks)
Since we can't turn any post into a political issue (against Wilders policy rules) I'll
    leave it at that.

I would like to see a full list of the NSA's "strategic partners" in addition to the list of citizens. I hate the fact that I may be unknowingly financially supporting some accomplices. Glenn's new book is a good read (I'm about 1/2 done). There's some more slides in it that Wikileaks could "un-redact".

    Sorry :(

Reading Drudge would be too great a medical risk ;)

Edit: Well, he does say that they'll publish names. Maybe there are millions ;)
