Yeah, I'm another user with that problem. I noticed that it's only happening when I manually click to "Update Now" at the main window.
Furthermore, I want to confirm the "Windows Action Center" bug.

But, the new beta works much more stable than previous version. The issue that I mentioned before seems to be fixed. I haven't got any crashes of the "a2service.exe" since update.

Oh, one more thing: I see that main services of EIS are 32-bit.
Is there a plan to develop a 64-bit version?

Yes, seeing the eternal update loop of program component here as well. For me it doesn't matter if the update was manual or automatic; I'm still prompted to reboot computer.

Everything seems to be fine except Windows Action Center now doesn't recognize that I have an AV or firewall.

We just released a new beta build today. Version number is 9.0.0.3952 for both Emsisoft Anti-Malware as well as Emsisoft Internet Security. If you have beta updates enabled under "Settings"/"Updates" the new version will be installed automatically. Since Emsisoft Anti-Malware 9.0 is fairly stable we decided to make this build available to Emsisoft Anti-Malware 8.1 users who opted into receiving beta updates as well.

Changes in 9.0.0.3952 compared to the previous version:
    • Added Windows 8 toast notifications when user runs modern UI app.
    • Added check to prevent quarantining of own program components.
    • Added check to prevent creation of rules for own program components.
    • Modified firewall alert logic and options.
    • Improved Emsisoft Anti-Malware Network functionality for better protection and decreased false alarms on behavior blocker alerts.
    • Improved notification popups functions and styles.
    • Improved guard context menu options.
    • Improved handling and storage of settings.
    • Improved tooltips in listviews.
    • Improved surf protection alerts. Allow once is bound to application sessions now.
    • Improved firewall functionality.
    • Improved support for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2.
    • Improved program shutdown behavior for firewall components. Firewall continues on shutdown.
    • Fixed and improved dozens of minor GUI glitches.
    • Fixed freeze when temporary protection pause state ends.
    • Fixed cut off news titles in notification popups.
    • Fixed auto-update execution if update was missed dues to game mode.
    • Fixed incorrect focus in main application while tabbing.
    • Fixed tab order in several dialogs.
    • Fixed crash when opening Logs dialog with empty Firewall log.
    • Fixed file guard protection bug on multiple malware actions.
    • Fixed repeated downloads of firewall components during online updates.
    • Removed checkbox to set default "create rule" option.
    • Firewall related controls at permissions settings are hidden in EAM now.
    • Internal code cleanup and optimizations.

Thanks for letting us know :).

Technically there is no need for it as of yet. There may be some memory constraints that would force us to move to 64bit once we enable the ability to perform multiple scans at once, but we haven't hit those constraints yet.

DarkyXxX & Antarctica, did you guys do an update or a clean install? What operating systems do you use? Windows Security Center would suggest Windows XP or Vista as it was renamed to Windows Action Center in later versions, but I just want to make sure.

I am using Windows 7 and I have beta update enabled, so no clean install on my side. Would that solve the problem?
    Thanks

That link will still download the latest beta so you can make a clean install. No worries. :)

Just downloaded it and at least for me it's the newest version:

If it is downloading the old version for you, we may have an issue with our CDN.

That may be a workaround, yes. However, I am more interested in fixing the problem that causes WAC to no longer recognize EAM/EIS if there is a program update then just handing out hackish workarounds. I will try it on my test systems to see if it happens there as well.

I was using a auto update. After update the WAC issue still still occurred.
    Only reinstall fixed that problem.

About popup windows: some of then are appears at the center of the desktop (for example: "Surf protection alert") and some - at the left corner ("Firewall"), which is exactly when its needed IMHO.
Is possible that every type of popup memorized where it was moved?

Another thing: I've got a Q9550 processor. At the "Scan" -> "Performance settings" I see 4 processors which is ok, but 5 threads. Is it normal for the quad core? Should I leave as it is?

That is normal. One thread is primarily used for I/O, so unless you have an old IDE disk, that thread will take very little CPU time as it is mostly waiting for the disk to return data. The other 4 threads will do the actual scanning, which is CPU intensive. So you end up with 5 threads over all on your system. For almost all users this setup is optimal. The only case where you may want to reduce the number of threads is if you use full hard disk encryption without hardware acceleration. In that case, reading data from the disk does involve a lot of CPU load (as the CPU has to decrypt the data) so you are better off with 1 thread constantly reading data and 3 threads scanning. However, that scenario is relatively rare.
