Unless some other software you run compels the use of Quicktime -- it's not required -- at all.

I'll stick to 11.1.3 the last version with working WiFi Sync, which is the only reason I'm still using iTunes.

If you do have some incarnation of QuickTime installed it should be at version 7.7.5

Apple must have borrowed the YouTube | Google Business Model - there's not a lot you can do to avoid those ads.

You can complain to Apple, though. Thanks for reporting this.

    Regards,

I updated iTunes on my Vista laptop. When I closed iTunes after running it for a bit I kept getting a Data Execution Prevention message a minute or so later informing me that Windows had closed the program down. I tried to fiddle with the DEP to exclude iTunes but to no avail.

Either way, I hardly use it anymore and I don't need QuickTime either, so I uninstalled the lot, including Bonjour!

For those that want legit Apple software - you are urged to download from Apple

For those that may want to avoid some bloat - you may disable the below MSCONFIG item:
    http://www.systemlookup.com/Startup/4978-iTunesHelper_exe.html
If you do not Synch your device often. In the event that you do - all Apple items must be left at auto-start.
