I'm new to VS, but I saw some videos on how it works. Looks interesting. So do I have to install .NET framework 3.5 or its compatible with .NET framework 4.5 which is built in Win8.1 ?

BTW, the new publisher feature is not active yet, even though it is enabled in settings. It will be fixed very soon, along with the other small bugs, and anything else that you guys find.

Wow, that was a rough start, but we are good to go now, I promise ;). It is always these little silly typos that creates major issues. If I could have detected the 2 installer issues before I released it, I certainly would have, but I simply did not experience the issues. But thank you for finding the bugs for me!

Hi KaptainBug, when you install VS on 8.1, the installer will activate and upgrade .net 3.5. For some odd reason, Microsoft decided to deactivate 3.5 unless certain software requires it. We chose 3.5 because it is native to windows 7, so the installation is literally 2 seconds. For ALL systems that have .net 4.5, it is backwards compatible with 3.5, so it is only a question of whether 3.5 is activated on Windows 8 and 8.1 systems or not. For example, if you are running Windows xp or 7 with .net 4.5, you are good to go and the installation is super quick.

If you need a license, please email me at dan@voodooshield.com and let me know what email address and password you would like to use! Thank you!

Back, after a hiccup...required two reboots, because the systray icons stopped loading midway, and then hung....hit the soft reboot button, and 2nd reboot, all is well. Whew! ;)

However, a new file has crept into the system and it seems to tie in with 2nd beta of VS, because of the timing as seen in the main VS program folder.

Well, i accidentally rolled my machine back to the wrong image the first time so I had to roll it back again. The GUI is loading ok at startup now. I did run into one problem though right away. I tried clicking on customize in the toolbar to unburry the VS tray icon, and customize would not respond at all. It was like clicking on a blank spot on the screen. I had to reboot again before the customize function would work. I experienced this same issue with the last beta build (the one a few weeks ago) except it did not matter how many times I rebooted. The customize function for tray icons would not respond at all. I'm sure the process that is running the GUI is causing this. In the last beta build I was running the GUI manually after startup. Every time I started the GUI the customize function for the tray icons would stop work. The screen shot was taken after rebooting a 2nd time when the customize function began to work. I just wanted to make sure you understood exactly what was not responding initially after rebooting to complete the installation.

See, with your guys help, we are getting there ;). Actually, we are there now after those 2 initial issues. It is funny, I did everything possible to keep that from happening, but somehow it still did ;). It is CRAZY how many things can go wrong with this stuff. I just discovered a small bug. When VS deactivates after 10 minutes, it does not allow recently allowed items (or something like that, I have to try it again to see what exactly happened).

Here is the good news... we are FINALLY past all of the difficult issues, we just have a few minor bugs to work out, and seriously, they should be easy.

BTW, a user asked me earlier through email how many lines of code is VS? At that point (earlier today), it was 386,630. I actually would like to try to be able to fit it on a floppy disk, I think it would be a GREAT marketing idea. It actually would easily fit on a floppy, except the images like the prompt screens and how it works take up SOOOOOO many MB compared to the actual code. So even with the images, we got it down to 2.59 for the install, which is quite good I think. I just want to be able to hand out VS floppy installers in January at the CES convention. I could cheat by downloading from the internet the necessary images on First Run, but really, it is not that important ;).

Thanks again! I am soooooo sorry about the 2 installer issues. The installer and software are 2 TOTALLY different things, and I have not given much needed attention to the installer as I have the software. Which reminds me... I am going to give much needed attention to Molly, then go to bed ;). Thank you guys!

hehehe, I am dead serious. As soon as something big happens with VS, we are all meeting in Vegas. I thought I made that clear about a year or so ago ;). hehehe

We have some amazing things in the works, but we HAD to get the software right first. The software is now right, except for the remaining small bugs, and anything you guys will find. All of this will be easy to fix. If I had to guess, I would think September 2014, we will all be in Vegas. Then again, I thought VS 2.0 would be ready last December ;).

I do like to joke, but seriously, we will ALL meet in Vegas (or wherever we decide), and we would like to pay for your flights and hotels because you guys have helped us tremendously. This only applies to anyone who has posted to the VoodooShield? thread, up until the day we make the announcement (I am guessing 2-3 months from now).

Thank you for the compliments! See you in Vegas!

Well, I just rebooted again. This makes the 3rd boot since installing VS, and the tray icon is missing despite both VS processes running in the task manager. The desktop gadget is there, but the tray icon is gone. I made sure it was not burred in the toolbar. Its completely gone. Dan, get some sleep. I will send you something on it tomorrow. I'm tired myself.

Update: I rebooted a 4th time, and tray icon is back again. o_O Oh, well we can work on it tomorrow, or another day.

I'm going to post this so I don't forget. I need to email you about trustedinstaller.exe being blocked by VS also. Well, VS actually asked if I wanted to allow it, and I denied it. I was pretty sure it belonged to Windows update service, but I was not positive so I checked online afterwards. It seems I was correct. I have automatically allow all software from Windows System Folders checked so I don't know why VS did not go ahead, and allow it without prompting me. I will send you a report tomorrow. Good night!

I would be very careful in my wording on that offer. You might have members that have posted in the thread, but really never helped at all with development expect you to pay for their trip. I think if you are going give away something like that then it should only be to members that have helped with development. There's too many people in this world that would take advantage of your hospitality. I don't know how many people have posted in the VS thread, but I would be guessing quite a lot.

    :D

    after the meeting:

"VoodooShield his sad to announce that we have to stop the development of our products, indeed the bill for the party in Vegas exceeded our expectations (especially the girls at the topless bar) and mostly the plane tickets for the 2 dudes living in Asia"

    :D
