    Hi,
i have a problem with free space cleaning in Privazer. I've just bought a SSD (Samsung 840 Evo), i've fully encrypted it with Truecrypt and i've just tried to clean "traces in free space" with Privazer (i know about "problems" releated to truecrypt encryption and TRIM and also that using a cleaning tool in a SSD can drastically shorten SSD life, but i need to encrypt it and cleaning is an action that i take just once a month), but everytime i scan the SSD, Privazer finds 100% of traces in free space, and even if i clean them, the next time finds again 100% of that traces.
Does anyone know how to solve that? Privazer isn'a able to clean free space or it's just something related to encryption or trim?
    Thank You

    Hello,
this is an issue with the detection in free spaces of encrypted drives.
    We will work on it.

    We keep you informed.

    Hi,
    thanks for the reply!
I just want to know if the problem related to detection of free space can negatively affect erasing of free space. I mean, if i do a scan and, after finding 100% of sectors to be erased, i run the delation, will it be successful or won't work?
    Thanks again

    Hello,

no issue for the wiping :as it detects traces on all sectors, PrivaZer will clean all sectors.

Does erasing an SSD shorten its lifespan? If I understand correctly, they were limited as to how many write cycles they could handle. Has this changed?

Possibly a worry with the first SSDs but not anymore in a 'normal' user environment. I just ran SSD Life, see screenshot, the drive may very well outlast me. ;)

    Hello,

modern SSDs are better but cleaning the entire free space may still shorten their lifespan.

That's why we developed a way to locate and wipe only sectors needing to be wiped,
so that it may reduce the amount of sectors to clean by a factor of 100 or 1000 !

    This way :
    1. PrivaZer significantly preserves your SSD lifespan
    2. PrivaZer significantly speeds up the wiping process (you may have noticed it in comparison with other wiping tools)
It works on HDDs and SSDs but has to be improved for encrypted SSDs.
We will work on it as soon as possible...

Thanks. I was wondering about that. I've avoided SSDs because of concerns over their lifespan and whether data could truly be erased from them.

That's one of the great features of your software - no question.

    Hi,
sorry if i reopen this old topic, but i need to know if there's any kind of solution about SSD wiping problem found in Privazer.
I still don't use it in order to preserve my SSD lifespan. The last version goes back to September 2014 and it didn't solve the problem.
Is Privazer project still in development or not? Because until September there were a lot of updates, and now not anymore.
    Thank you

    Hello @sinibo86

PrivaZer preserves your SSD lifespan when cleaning your SSD free space because it wipes only free sectors needing to be wiped.
In your case, you have an encrypted SSD and PrivaZer does not detect properly which free sectors needs to be cleaned.
This issue will be fixed (on our roadmap) and I hope it will before the end of the year, once our work on system snapshots cleanup will be done.

Sorry for delay again and thanks for your patience. @sinibo86

Just getting up to speed transitioning to SSD's and is looking super and running scans/cleans are rapid compared to my mechanical drives.

Thanks for always looking out for your users @The_PrivaZer_Team PrivaZer
