    SOLVED ------ OPERATOR ERROR!!!!

version 4.2.16 (latest linux version of VBox)

I thought about putting this in the virtualization forum but its specific to 14.04 (Ubuntu). I have been having issues with guest additions on a 14.04 VM. The screen won't resize. When I read on the VB forums it is addressed in version 4.3.10 but that is only for windows apparently. I guess I will just have to keep using my 12.04 VM's until VB releases a new version compatible with 14.04. Latest for 13.10 host is 4.2.16. Everything works like "clockwork" using 13.10 host and 12.04 VM's.

Feeling kind of "newbie" here. I am running a 13.10 host on the computer in question. Canonical doesn't provide updates to 4.3.10 in the software center. At one point I deleted VB completely and restarted my system. I installed VB from the software center and it was back at 4.2.16 again Hmmmmmm!

So I deleted the 4.2.16 VB and then manually downloaded and installed 4.3.10 from the desktop. Installed without a hitch. First time I ran into that issue. Wonder if its because 13.10 isn't LTS. Either way no big deal because now I know how to look for whether or not its provided. Simple to go out and get it manually once you know you have to.

I also tried out 14.04 in VBox. I think the weird graphics issues are due to
    a) No vbox guest drivers installed by default
    b) Xorg defaulting to fbdev driver instead of vesa
    c) Canonical's lingering, purile hangup on 3D desktop effects

    (a) and (b) are forgivable, but (c) just has to die already.

My 14.04 VM is running slick and has a really nice screen appearance since I upgraded VirtualBox manually (on the host). I did put guest additions on the 14.04 VM as well. I haven't done any official benchmarks yet, but 14.04 appears to have great speed on my system. I am playing around with it, but for now I am using 3 Gig as my machine memory setting. I have RAM to spare on this laptop. I don't know if it would change much by raising it to 5-8 Gig. Again, plenty on board. 3 Gig leaves it so I never see any pauses or flinches while I am moving around.

When 14.04.1 is released I'll move it to bare metal and ditch 13.10 as the host. I am not quite there yet.
