Things are still going phenomenally well! I still have one issue with Windows 8, and a small bug on the hash calculation, but other than that, it is running great! I am including hash comparison in VS 2.0... VS 1.30, just did process name and path comparison, but VS 2.0 has all 3, just as an additional check. Once these 2 issues are resolved, I just have to add a couple of things, and we are good to go.

I wanted to get everyone's opinion on a couple of things.

There is a new feature that I just added today that Automatically Allows by Publisher until Deactivation. I have always believed that allowing by publisher / digital signature all of the time is dangerous. But this new feature is kind of cool, and (at least in theory ;)), it should allow child processes when installing new software, even when VS is ON. How it works is, if that option is checked in settings, if VS allows a parent process, it will temporarily store the digital signature and allow any child processes that have that same digital signature. But obviously VS needs to forget that digital signature at some point, otherwise it will always allow files with that digital signature. So I figured that we would simple have VS forget the previous digital signature when it toggles, or when a completely different file / process is blocked. Having to deal with toggling during development always presents major challenges, but once it is finished, the toggling comes in very, very handy ;).

Also, on the quarantine... in the last 16 years of killing viruses, I have never restored anything from quarantine, so I am not sure if we should have a quarantine list in the GUI, or just have a button that takes the user to where the files are renamed and stored. What is everyone's thoughts on this?

One last thing... the virus scan prompts are working great, and I think everyone will like the flow. The only issue is that most scans happen so fast that the initial screen just kind of flashes. So when you guys are taking VS 2.0 for a test drive, can you please give me suggestions on how to improve this? For example, should they slide in from the right, or pop up, or should we slow them down? Once you see it, you will be able to help me figure out what to do.

Also, this version should be perfectly safe to try on any computer, but please keep in mind that it is a beta. You should not have any issues at all, but if you do, a simple uninstall will fix it. I just wanted to mention this because I was a little worried about the last VS 2.0 version... I thought there was a chance that it might get someone caught in an infinite reboot loop or something. But I completely scrapped that version, and the new VS 2.0 should be just as safe as 1.30.

I will keep you guys posted. If things go right, it will be ready by Friday for sure. Otherwise, I would say with 99% certainty that it will be ready sometime over the weekend. Thank you! And thank you for being so patient!

First one defer to your judgement, sounds good though. Not sure about quarantine didn't realize VS quarantined a blocked process so your option sounds fine. If VS blocks something I may just rerun and allow. Looking forward to V2.

Quarantine sounds interesting but why rename the file? And a Button would be best IMHO and the rest is sounding great!

I have some ideals in mind, but I think I will wait to see what we have before making any recommendations. I will keep in mind the feedback you need when testing. It's sounding good though!

It could be similar to "Panic mode" in ExeWatch but VS should explain if is it true.

Quick update, we really are almost done!!! I will post the beta for everyone to try tomorrow or the next day. Again, sorry it is taking so long, hopefully it will be worth it ;). We just keep running into issue after issue, and some of them take 20-30 hours to fix, but it is looking great now!

I will go back and read and reply to all of the posts after we release the beta. Thank you!

    Hi Dan

Take it easy...do what you need to do to get it right...as far as you are concerned. One cannot rush an 'artist' whilst he is 'creating'. I am sure I speak for all when I say that we will continue to be patient.:thumb:

    Regards

Quick update... One of the original developers of VS, Karl, is helping again. VS 2.0 is pretty much finished, but he is going to proofread everything and make sure we are good to go. There is one last bug that would not be too hard for me to fix, but when he offered to help, I jumped at the chance. Besides, this last month has been super crazy, and I really need to take a break for a day or so. Karl is the developer who wrote the code for VS from the very first beta version all the way up to 1.04, and did an amazing job, and really understands how VS works. It should not take him too long, he just needs to find the time, I am guessing a 3-4 days at the most. If it looks like it will be longer, I will post the current version sooner than that, of course after the remaining bug is fixed ;). Again, sorry it is taking so long.

BTW, there is a very good chance that we will be offering a feature limited free version in the next 2-3 weeks. Wilder's users will still receive free full version licenses. If anyone would like to make suggestions on what features should be limited in the free version, please email me at dan@voodooshield.com. The whole idea is to make VS free for home users, but commercial users who want to, for example, transfer their snapshots to other computers and manage their computers online, will need to buy a pro license. The cloud based blacklist scan with 50+ scan engines will be available in both versions. Thank you!

That's great news! I hope Karl finds himself reenergized, and excited to be working on the project again after seeing all the work you have put into VS since his inactivity with the project.

    Hi Dan

Thanks for the heads up...sounding good. I know that I must by now sound like a broken record but...take your time (Karl too)...we will look forward to another masterpiece...when it is ready to show it's self.

Will have some thoughts as to what could be limited to Pro version only and email you if I come up with anything.

    Cheers

    Hey Wilders Users!

Tomorrow is our 3 year anniversary, May 5th, 2011 is when we officially started ;).

Hehehe, you guys have NO idea how frustrating this whole project has been, seriously. How hard is it to create a simple desktop shield gadget / toggling computer lock? ;). If you guys had any idea what all has happened the last 3 years, you would understand that the ONLY reason I have kept going is because you have supported me and encouraged me to keep going.

I cannot thank you guys enough, seriously.

In the last 3 years, everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. Not that it could not be necessarily be fixed, but it was just a serious pain in the ass. But since I believed that every device needs a simple computer lock, and since you supported and encouraged me to keep going, somehow it looks like this whole thing is going to work out after all ;).

As far as the VS 2.0 release date goes, things have changed once again, it is a LONG story, but what I will say is...

VS 2.0 will be available soon (seriously this time), and it is insanely great.

    Thank you for everything!

    Dan

Build it, and they will come lol We will be here waiting to try her out. Bugs don't stand a chance getting past us unless they do not exist on our particular hardware lol
