They seem to be having a lot of issues this year. If they don't get it straightened out soon nobody will care. And yes, I realize some people already don't care.

I wonder if a break up of the company would make any sense, it´s really huge right now, perhaps too big?

Btw, I´ve never used a product made by Symantec.

 

Ever notice how the company press release inevitably contains a paragraph about the outgoing executive that makes you wonder why they are letting him go if he has done so well?

Maybe they'll try to get Vince Steckler back from avast!

 

I used Norton many years ago, when I didn't know better. I wouldn't think of using their product, and any PC I see that has it - has it uninstalled when I work on it.

 

Actually, now that I think of it, I need to correct myself.

At work I did use Norton Ghost, it was actually quite good.

And if I´m correct, Norton AntiVirus came preinstalled on the first PC I ever bought (in 1996), an IBM Aptiva.

 

Actually I do care (a little ) I would love it if they had another epiphany as happened with the 2009 product line. That was a huge step in the right direction.

That was a huge step in the right direction. The 2014 product was looking good until they cut a bunch of employees. Then it started having issues that are slow to get fixed if at all. They don't have long to resolve this before their reputation will suffer again.

 

Btw, I´ve noticed that Norton AV always scores high in reviews, but it doesn´t seem to be too popular on this forum.

The Norton product line typically scores well on PCMag.com tests. I feel the tests are done well, but of course not everyone agrees with the methodology. When I used Norton in the past it was always the Internet Security (NIS), not the AV since I liked the firewall. The AV would be a good choice if you like to use a different firewall. A good way to find out what the issues are with the current releases is to read the messages in their support forum (there are always issues with security software ).
