Can I use Webroot SA (the Antivirus component) + MalwareBytes Premium with it's realtime protection on and Zemana Antilogger, the paid version - all at the same time on my Windows 8.1 computer? Is it a valid (effective?) layered combo?

I'm not looking for a heavy AV, just need something light - but I don't want to cut corners around security either. Stuff like the new .POSHCODER malware scares me :-(

Yes you can...and have seen others with this (similar) combo.

If it was me I'd not use the Web Protection part of MBAM, however, as WSA has web filtering add-on, and Web Shield.

Perfect, thanks! I'll install them and run them for a few days to check for any possible conflicts or issues.

    Of course you can.

No it's not. The identity shield of WSA already more than covers the protection provided by Zemana AL.

And WSA is the lightest, fastest and most effective security solution. With stellar support WSA surely outweighs others.:D

Thanks a ton, so what should I include instead of Zemana? Can you suggest me something to supplement the WSA and Malwarebytes pro?

Just add a backup strategy. Turn ON file history in Windows 8 (you need an external HD or NAS) and also peform a system backup on a regular bases. Thats all!

Why do you feel you need more than those 2 ? :)

I do have file history turned ON, and I have backups of my data too... just that I hate the fact of having to clean up if anything does get inside, including toolbars and such. This is a family computer.. I don't have a need for a separate computer/laptop for myself as I just use my Xperia Z and Nexus tablet for everything :D

My bro just got the Cryplolocker malware, some machines at my dad's office had few other infections....most of my friends' machines are adware/malware havens... you get the idea. I just want to have all corners covered, isn't that the point of a layered approach. If something gets past WSA then I need something that can at least block/prevent it and so on.

Malwarebytes takes care of the PUPs on the machine, I need something that can act as a good backup to WSA. I'm open to replacing WSA as the primary AV too, if there's something better and just as light out there.

Be sure to enable (if not already enabled) detection for PUA/PUP's in both WSA and MBAM Pro. Then the chance is higher that the "and such" stuff is detected as well. :D

Password protect WSA to avoid having it shutdown on purpose and use limited user account whenever possible. Piling up security tools one over the other will simply not help. Other users will probably suggest to add imaging tools like shadow defender. However, try to keep it simple and master what you already have combined with a closed-down, secured and updated OS.

I totally agree with what others have said. Keep it simple. Layered security approach is not having more overlapping software. It's about using security measures effectively and keeping all corners covered. Just follow what fellow members have mentioned in this thread and you're good to go.:) I would suggest you to try Hitman Pro.:thumb:

    ;dThanks a lot guys!

@SweX : Yes I've enabled the PUP/PUA detection options in WSA and MBAM. Hopefully with the details and feedback I have from you now, I'll stick to WSA + MBAM Pro for now.
@Yanick : the SRP hardening looks good, I'll check out the thread - thanks for the link :)
@ams963 : I've disabled Zemana as you're right about the replicated functionality, WSA has me covered on that front. I'll take a look at Hitman Pro :D (I love the name - reminds me of the Hitman 47 games I used to play heheh)

WSA really is all the protection you need. I understand since you have MBAM Pro you want to use it, and that is fine, but you don't need anything else. I'd rather use MBAM as on demand but for the great price and the lifetime license it's hard to pass on the pro version. As long as you understand how WSA works, and you are good with that, then you understand you have great protection. I also run Hitman Pro.Alert and a weekly scan with Hitman Pro.

Good going.:thumb: As you might have observed many of the members use Hitman Pro. There are valid reasons for that. It's one of the best on-demand malware scanners and probably the best rootkit scanner around. You should absolutely take it for a ride. There is also another product from the same developers - Hitman Pro.Alert. You can use it with WSA. It will only detect threat of a different sort. But the threat can then be removed with Hitman Pro. IMO, the alert version is not needed when you have WSA. But they are compatible.:)

Thanks a lot. I would have never found it. Never thought it would be this well hidden. But no goodies can be hidden from my friends in the Wilders.:thumb:
