My motherboard has a Marvell 88SE9172 SATA hard disk controller in addition to the standard Intel ones. I have multiple hard disk drives. I can, with the system powered off, select which drive I want to use by turning on or off power switches I have wired into the drive power wiring. I have a SATA hard disk attached to the Marvell controller. I have Paragon Hard Disk Manager 12 Professional version 10.1.19.16240 I generally like to run the program from the Linux Recover Disk that the program creates for you. When I to run the recovery CD on my 88SE9172 attached disk, it does not show up at all. If I run the Paragon program from an Intel attached hard disk with the Marvell attached hard disk powered on also, I see both drives and the Paragon program runs fine. I have a Marvell Windows driver included in the recovery disk, but I think that I need a Linux driver and some Linux parameters. I know next to nothing about Linux. My hard disks all run Windows XP. Can anyone give me some guidance? If no one has any ideas about this, can someone tell me how to create the WinPE Recovery Disk and include the Marvell Windows driver within it and maybe that will work for me? TIA
You can use Boot Media Builder to create a WinPE with the driver included. You must have the driver uncompressed (no ZIP or EXE), point BMB to the .INF file at the approppiate point in the process. If your computer is 64 bit use 64-bit drivers. Otherwise use 32-bit drivers. Also, BMB needs WAIK or WADK, which you must download and install. WAIK produces a WinPE 3.0, based on Windows 7. WADK produces a WinPE 5.0, based on Windows 8.1.
Thank you. If I build Win PE 3.0 based on 64bit Windows 7, can I still use the Win PE based recovery disc to backup and restore 32 bit Windows XP hard disk images? If so, do I chose 32 bit mode or 64 bit mode of operation when doing this?
If you build a WinPE in a 64-bit computer using Boot MB, the resulting WinPE will be 64-bit. You can try to boot with it in a 32-bit XP machine. I suppose whether it will work depends on the specific XP computer being used, but trying doesn´t involve any risk. Worst thing than can happen is that it doesn´t boot. It should be possible to build either a 32-bit or 64-bit WinPE in any computer. This can be done with other imaging programs, but not with Paragon.
Sorry, I did not express myself as well as I wished. Let me elaborate and specify. I have a 64 bit machine, but currently I am running 32 bit XP on my hard drives. Since support has been dropped for XP, I am in the process of building an image of Windows 7 64 bit to replace the XP setups. I have multiple hard disks which I can power on or off when the whole system is powered off through the use of power switches on the hard drive power harnesses. What I mean't to ask is if I build a 64 bit Win 7 based Paragon Hard Disk Manager 12 Professional bootable Win PE recovery disc, can I use that to backup and restore my existing 32 bit XP images on my 64 bit hardware?
