Hitman's engines have enough of them as it is when combined. Tough luck Ikarus (and G-Data).

PS. And I don't even dislike Ikarus, IMO its engine has the makings of a great one, but it should get more polished first.

I've just installed Ikarus to try, due to its excellent detection of malware packs from MalwareTips.

I have real time protection disabled as it was causing a noticeable drop in system performance. The interface looks very dated. What is impressive, is the detection of the malware packs. For example with the very latest malware pack it missed just four samples out of 186.

I'm still liking Ikarus. It updates every 20 minutes without fail. With real time protection disabled, it has zero impact on my system except when updating, which is not always the case with AV software. Updating happens very quickly so the impact then doesn't matter.

    lol!!!!!!!

...... disable everything and you will have zero minus impact on your system!

Actually, this is not always the case. I have had antiviruses causing noticeable system impact at times, even with real time protection disabled. Once such example was the previous version of Ad-Aware which used Vipre's scan engine. I had it installed purely as on demand scanner with the real time protection components not even installed.

So... Ikarus will impact a system performance unless you disable realtime protection?

Ugh.. I've come to the stage in life where I won't use any AV that causes any performance issues. The metrics are too good with newer machines. Pages loading in 0.09 seconds, and with an AV they load in 1.0 seconds? It feels like eternity.

I tried Emsisoft on a dev box today, and even the tiny impact was too much of an annoyance. Back to ClamAV+Sentinel on that machine. :cautious:

Yes, it caused a very noticeable drop in system performance. I am using older hardware - my laptop only has P8600 Core 2 Duo processor which is slow my current standards. On a more powerful system then maybe the impact on performance would be fairly low.

Me too - which is why I'm happy to use Ikarus with real time protection disabled.

    Thanks for the update.

Better performance as in better detection rate? Or less system impact?

    Less system impact.

My only argument with Ikarus was the performance issue and that is being address. Ikarus is still the best protection of all AVs out there and when the beta is ready, Ikarus may finally get the reconigtion it deserves. :)

I am trying Ikarus on my gaming PC right now and am using it in a business-environment (50+ workstations) for month now and what I can say is that the new version is way faster than before. On demand scantime is still slow but during working or gaming there is no impact noticeable at all and i was using WSA on my gaming rig before trying the new Ikarus version. I am really pleased. Good work Ziggy!
