Hello the web page of zone alarm say Automatic Antivirus signature updates Based on hourly frequency. Plus unlimited real-time manual updates whats means BASED ON HOURLY FREQUENCY?
As far as im aware an automatic download occurs once a day but signatures are available all day via a manual update. Looks like they have given you an hourly auto update now so no need for manual updates. I may be wrong though.
The wording is a bit confusing, but if you look on the product comparison chart, where it lists the automatic av updates, it says every 24 hours. So it'll auto update once a day. I think the hourly frequency is meant more for the paid versions.
The AV engine is Kaspersky - solid protection. It updates every 24 hours but you can of course update more often manually if you like. Every hour may be too much work!
Yup - that's the price of free AV. Considering you're getting a world-class AV engine, its a small price to pay for this gem!
I should have mentioned an integrated AV/Firewall is unheard of at this price - it has good basic features. You can of course upgrade to the paid version but for home users, the default will be pretty comprehensive protection against both malware infection and intrusion.
it will be a great AV if kaspersky is at the helm. Is this an up to date kaspersky engine or does zone alarm use an older version
Its up to date! ZA use its own cloud technology but the AV engine is Kaspersky and normally it costs $20 from Kaspersky but here it is free. You can't find bargains like this online very often! It managed to intercept and quarantine a dangerous trojan that I subsequently deleted.
If you look around, you can usually find some nice deals for ZoneAlarm products. I picked up the Pro version for 10 bucks a couple of months ago. But as you say, you're getting a very impressive product for free. I think Roboscan IS Free is a good alternative, but ZA's firewall is superior.
Yeah i have a kaspersky image saved. What is zonealarm like on resources etc. sorry for the questions.
As the previous poster said, it's really a great deal considering the price. I have been using it since it was in beta and it's been rock solid on all my machines that use it. The only downside that I see is the memory usage for the vsmon.exe process. It hovers around 200k which seems a bit high. But the system is light as a feather. My browsing speeds, any games etc work great. Ice
i dont understand why ZA is so great in this test, only whit 1 update every 24 hours http://www.av-test.org/no_cache/en/tests/test-reports/?tx_avtestreports_pi1[report_no]=121822
ZA free suite updates every 24hrs, but it has been doing great in tests....you can check that with avtest site.
