I currently am using the following security programs:

    Symantec AntiVirus Corporate (paid)
    SuperAntiSpyware (paid)
    Zemana (paid)
    ThreatFire (free)

My question is if I download a zipped or rar file will a scan by any of the above programs detect a present malware? I have recently downloaded zipped and rar files that when I scan them with VirusTotal and Jotti one or two of the scanners have detected something. But, when I run the above programs and on occasion an online scanner nothing is being detected. Consequently, I assume the downloaded files are safe. Am I fooling myself? As always I appreciate all replies and would thank you in advance.

Hi, it's not a new thing. Some AV's are over cautious and detect certain packers inside programs as possibly malicious. That's because some nasties do use them to try and conceal their presence. As you've found in your case though for eg, it's not always the case = FP. Personally i don't mind, as i think it's better safe than sorry ;)
