Of course piracy goes down when affordable, reasonable and legal means become available. When the film and network TV industry catches up with the music industry, they'll see their precious shows pirated less. Until then, they can keep suing all they want (which the music industry wisely realized doesn't work and actually causes more piracy out of spite).

 

I don't think they have quite figured out that one yet.

 

The industry does, the RIAA doesn't quite. But the RIAA is composed of nothing but lawyers and ex-industry execs who still think it's the 1970s. The lawsuits have tremendously slowed down compared to just a few short years ago. A never-ending stream of court appearances is more harmful to them than the pirates and they've slowly began to see that as millions of dollars went into these cases, most of which they actually lost.
