    Hi,

I lke hear your comments and opinion to know How would be the best alternative to Install in my Laptop, following the criteria:

1.- Less impact in the System ( less resouces )
    2.- Good Detection rate

    The candidates are:

    NOD32
    Kasperky 6
    AVIRA Professional 7

The system isn Windows XP Pro, the cost of the AV is not problem....Understand that the best way is install and take the desision, but know that here are experts and like hear your comments,

    Thank you and Happy 2007

well you cant go wrong with any of them
i chose kaspersky myself due to its scan new and changed files only options and higher detection rate.
    and its self protection
    it is light on resources

also try Drweb since thats meant to be very good as well and very light.
although the gui isnt to my taste

I recommend NOD32. It has got one of the greatest on-demand and real-time as well as the heuristic detection rates, and it leaves the smallest memory footprint. You should visit the http://www.av-comparatives.org/. On the other hand, even though the Kaspersky AV has got (possibly) the greatest on-demand detection rate, it's heuristic detection rate is rather bad and it is a real memory hog.
    I hope this helped.
    Happy New Year

I tried all three of those, and settled on KAV6. It is light, scans faster, and has top notch detection rates. It also runs better on my system than Avira, and as well as NOD.

You cannot go wrong with any of the three, and all will give you best protection.

In my view the choice is which runs best on your system.

The claim that KAV is a memory hog is not substantiated by memory "figures." Maybe V5 was, but not V6. KAV6 used slightly less memory on my system than NOD32.

    Best,
    Jerry

Agreed! Although, IMHO, NOD32 and Antivir may be too close to call! ;)

I would recommend NOD32. It's light as a feather on my laptop and I like the proactive heuristics capability. KAV 6 and Antivir are also good choices.

I recommend Avira judging by the last on demand test at av-comparatives. it scored the highest. I know it is light no resources as well but i dont know about kaspersky 6 or NOD32 since I have never used them. I hear they are also quite light on resources.

I dont judge it just by stats. Avira is light and runs very well on my system. And Ive been using it before it had a ~99% detection rate.

    Hi,

You can not be wrong with the three you choose.

NOD suits well my desktop (my main comp), Antivir is installed on my laptop and works very well.
KAV is a top product with some HIPS feature but slows down a little my comp

Nod 32 is fast reliable easy to use friendly and has kicked the living daylights out of every virus that has come my way. It does exactly what it says that it will do and it doesn't pop up every ten mins saying found this that or the other. What more can a person ask for?

kaspersky doesnt seem to slow my pc down.
also proactive defence is getting a white list for known safe programs soon so you cant ask for more.

Try them out. See which ones you prefer on your pc and which ones run the smoothest.

For example, many people claim that KAV6 runs very light on their pc. However, KAV doesn't like my pc :p and sucks up CPU so I don't use it. This is probably a very unique situation, but it affects whether or not I use it, despite it being an excellent program with a great engine.

NOD32 is great, runs light, etc. but it isn't free, so I don't use it :p

Antivir is about equal with NOD32 and runs very light on my pc, but I have dropped it and gone av free for now :ninja:

All of them are excellent, and will protect you very well. Try them out with the free trials, try configuring the GUI to see if you like it, run a scan, update it, etc. Only then will you find an av that not only is "good" according to the tests, but also you like and runs well on your pc

    Cheers,

It sure runs light on my rig.

My choice is powerhouse KAV 6::thumb:

*no noticeable impact on my rig
*never had an infection since running KAV (I have started with KAV 5), talking about a period of > 1,5 years.

Best thing to do is trial all of them and see which one you like best.

NB1 I have read somewhere that AntiVir Free does not scan HTTP, this is not safe.
NB2 Avira Professional 7 does not exist.;)

I also have to say, you might want to consider Dr. Web. 2007 is going to bring a very reliable and worthy contender to the market when they release their next version.

My view as well. although KAV and NOD are both excellent. KAV tends to give me more problems

Antivir free/Classic does not scan incoming email, but treats it as any download. If mail is infected Classic will prevent it from executing. It is just as safe, they claim, as if it scanned.

I would not let that keep me from choosing Avira Classic. I accept that it is just as safe as if it did scan email.

    Best,
    Jerry
