First, would you please send a copy of the C:\WINDOWS\QUESTMOD.DLL file to submit_stuffATxs4all.nl for analysis? (replace 'AT' by @)

We're pretty sure it doesn't belong on your computer, but we would still like to have a closer look at it. We'd also want to submit copies to developers in the security field if it turns out to be a brand new baddie.

    Much appreciated :)

The file could possibly have the "Hidden" attribute. Here's how to show hidden and operating system files

After sending us that file, go to https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=14086 , and download the latest version of CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom, the creator of Hijack This.

    Do NOT run it yet.

Now Start your computer in Safe Mode (it may help if you print this out), and delete:

    The C:\Program Files\ComSoft folder
    The C:\Program Files\Altnet folder

    C:\Windows\System\Msrexe.exe
    C:\Windows\System\Logon.exe
    C:\Windows\System32\Wintime.exe

NOTE: once again make sure that hidden and operating system files are set to show.

Next, still in Safe Mode, run Hijack This, and have it fix these items:

Next, run CWShredder, press fix, and have it fix all it finds.

Now start your computer normally, and please post a fresh log.

Also, you're running an antiquated and therefore extremely unsafe version of Internet Explorer, which moreover contributed to your getting infected in the first place.

So, when all this is over, you NEED to upgrade to IE 6.0 SP1 . (Make sure you get the correct language version for your operating system! ).

Next, go to the Windows Update site, and download and install ALL Critical Updates on offer.
That will fix innumerable bugs, update a large number of important system files, and plug many security holes.

    Good luck,

Good to hear you're up and running agaon.

We've been able to obtain a copy of the dll through other means, so don't worry about it. :)
