I've installed the Windows XP Recovery Console on the primary partition on which Windows XP is installed.

But what if the partition becomes corrupt? Will the recovery console be useless then as well?

If so, I would like to install this console on a separate DOS (FAT) partition as well.

Is this possible? How? (I tried copying \cmdcons and pointing OSS to BOOTSECT.DAT, but without success)

I have never tried installing the RC into its own partition. I don't even know if it will run from a FAT partition.

You may be able to get it to work from an NTFS partition, but you may need to do a complete XP setup and then just delete the unnecessary files/folders. I suspect that the only way OSS will boot it is if it thinks it's a valid XP partition.
