Yep, see this picture for where it's hanging:

    [img=http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/8954/img0432web.th.jpg]

The new HD was NEVER in the same computer as the old one.

I tried running the "boot corrector" but it didn't resolve the issue.
I selected "Search for windows installations to correct" then "Correct drive letters in the System Registry" and assigned drive letters to the partitions. That didn't work.

Then i went back and selected "Correct the partition boot record" but that didn't work either :(

    EDIT:

I relaunched the "boot corrector" and selected "Correct drive letters in the System Registry" and changed the drive letters (so what should be C: was D: and was should be D: was C:) and it WORKS!

    Thanks a million!

    tweakerxp,

Excellent news. Thanks for that image too.

I'm interested in these clone failures. Could you answer a few questions?

How did you do the cloning procedure?
    Where were the HDs?
Did you run Acronis TI from Windows or the boot CD?
    Are you dual booting?
Was WinXP a C: drive on the old HD? Or a D: drive?
Is WinXP a D: drive on the new HD?

To clone the drives, I took the old hard drive and the new one and placed them in a different computer, and booted off an Acronis TI CD. No dual booting is or was taking place. To be honest with you, I'm not too sure if the partition containing XP was C: drive on the old HD, however, odly enough, it is the C: drive on the new drive (even though boot corrector said otherwise.) I've cloned MANY drives before and never seen this happen.

    It's certainly weird.

Cloning in another computer is non standard. I understand you are experienced in this technique. It is not to be recommended for certain laptops because of geometry issues but your problem was not related to HD geometry.

Can jonyjoe81 explain why the current OS is C: drive even though it was changed to D: drive in the boot corrector?

The boot corrector only shows the "partition ID drive letter", what shows up in windows under "my computer" is the "mounted devices drive letter" . More than likely the "boot corrector" changed the "partition ID" back to c: from d:. Both of these drive letters have to match otherwise it won't boot.

If the mounted devices is c: and the partition ID is d: and the computer boots up, then there might be something else going on.
