    Hi All,

We are pleased to announce this x64 release for Look 'n' Stop.
XP-64 Bits and Vista-64 bits are supported.

The version name is 2.06p1, and has to be considered as a beta release so far.
So, as usual, if your PC is important for your business (or anything else), you should wait before trying it, and create a restoration point before installing it.

    The download links:
    En: http://looknstop.soft4ever.com/Beta/2.06p1/LooknStop_Setup_206p1_x64.exe
    Fr: http://looknstop.soft4ever.com/Beta/2.06p1/Installation_LooknStop_206p1_x64.exe

To use it, you need to install first the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable" package (x64) available here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...2d-33c0-4a47-9dd4-b9a6d7bd44da&DisplayLang=en
otherwise you will probably encounter some "side by side" errors when starting the setup.

This setup is for x64 only, the 2.06p1 for win32 will be released later.
Under Vista, during the installation you will have to agree to install a certificate, as the drivers are digitally signed now.

If you need plugins for x64, here is the link:
    http://looknstop.soft4ever.com/Beta/2.06p1/x64-Plugins/

Two features are not supported yet: the DLL filtering and the protocol filtering.
The history section of the help file is updated with the content of the 2.06p1.

You can report any feedback and problem here in this thread.

    Thanks,

    Frederic

    Thank you so much!

I just re-installed Vista64 today and was researching compatible firewalls.

    Great timing!

    Hi, Frederic [and team]

Congratulations and many thanks for on this x64 release installed on VisUx64 and seems to be running without any problems.

The only problem is with the registration, and that problem is every time I try to register it crashes LnS. [warning box saying that LnS has stopped working]

    Hi TheQuest,

I haven't experienced this, but shouldn't be any problem for Frederic to fix.

    Hi, Phant0m

    Nice to hear from you.

I did try the Outpost SS withe Vista x64 support but that had a problem with the same dll in that above event log I posted, the firewall part of the SS would not activate [not work], so I uninstall it.

So I was really pleased to read about this release over on your site this morning,

    Hi TheQuest,

    Thanks for your report.

I haven't reproduced this problem yet, so I will look at the address information you gave, and I should be able to find out where the issue is.

Could you confirm you tried a valid email+serial ? (and not an old 2.05 code)

    Thanks,

    Frederic

    Hi, Frederic

I think it is a old code, because it is from you dated February 2005.

Please advise how to get new code from you?

    Take Care,
    TheQuest

    Hi TheQuest,

You should received a 2.06 serial soon.

I've finally reproduced the issue when Look 'n' Stop is started in admin mode and when entering an old 2.05 serial.
I've put a temporary patch here:
    http://looknstop.soft4ever.com/Beta/2.06p1/x64-Patch1/

    Regards,

    Frederic

    Hi, Frederic

Thank you very much for your prompt replies, also thank you for taking the time to make a [the] patch.

I will wait for my 2.06 serial, but will try the patch if you would like me to?

    With many regards
    Take Care,

Yes, if possible, I would like you to try the patch, and enter again the old serial, just to check the crash is no longer there.
After you will enter the new serial, it won't be possible to check that (except by manually editing the registry).

Could you confirm UAC was disabled or you are running looknstop.exe in admin mode ?

    Thanks,

    Frederic

I get an immediate error when I even try to install this on Vista Ultimate 64 Dutch version.... So no install possible :(

UAC is disabled and I am running Vista as admin.

I also did install the visual C from Microsoft, but the error is indeed the 'side by side' one.

    Hi Edwin024,

Could you confirm you really installed the SP1 package ?
There is an older VC2005 package, and when installing it the "side by side" error is still there.

Another check: in "C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS", you should have some folders starting with "x86_Microsoft.VC80.MFC", and the folder name contains also the version of the redistribution. It should be "8.0.50727.762".
    Could you check ?

    Thanks,

    Frederic

I just followed your link, so I will look again!

EDIT: It works and it's very light again :) The license problem is there too but I have sent you an email through the website of Frederic. Hope to get a new one soon.

    Hi, Frederic

Have tried the patch, it is not crashing LnS any more but it will not accept my email address with the old serial. o_O

    Hi TheQuest,

Registering using the old serial with v2.06, I believe you need to supply the code # in the e-mail address field.

By the way, you shouldn't disable UAC completely, I would suggest to turn it back on and visit the registry location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System and change the Value Data from 1 to 0 for ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin value name, if you aren't running with administrator privileges then change just the value Data for ConsentPromptBehaviorUser.

You didn't need to uninstall, re-install Look 'n' Stop, you could have simply exited Look 'n' Stop application and delete the following registry location HKLM or HKCU\Software\Soft4Ever\looknstop\register ;)

    Hi TheQuest,

Thanks for the test. This behaviour is normal, the old serial can't work on a fresh install.
The purpose of the patch and the test was just to avoid the crash but not to have the old serial working.
For x64, there would be normally no real issue because a new serial is mandatory, the problem is more important for win32, in case of a 2.05 user is updating to the 2.06p1 (because the old serial still applies there), that's why I wanted to know I had identified the issue.

So, no need to perform further tests here.

    Thanks,

    Frederic

    Don't you mean "amd64_Microsoft.VC80.MFC" ?

Can this be started as a service because LnSSvc.exe is not installed ?
