Is it possible to get into Ubuntu while running Win8?

i've installed Wubi but it won't boot into it/ I don't have the option

I don't believe I have UEFI/ secureboot, my mobo wouldn't support that it's at least a year old AND a laptop

Kind of short, but maybe this will help http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11314069 . It probably won't work while 8 is in development. After all, it's a tool for current Windows users to try out Ubuntu..Windows 8 users are probably not among that group :)

Edit: Here's another link http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=11308355 . The last person seems to think it might work.

    I will have a look.

I think that the current bootloader is just too "beta" to work properly yet. I know it works with Windows 7 and Windows 8 dualboots but we'll see.

I'm sure once 8 is out, Wubi will be updated for it. 8 is probably going to change a lot, so it's probably not worth their time. Simple guessing on my part though.

Hm. Followed that guys instructions. Win8 and Ubuntu are both listed... but it won't show up when I restart.

EDIT: Guess I can repartition etc.

If you can get it running on there, I'd be surprised, though pleasantly :)

I could make Ubuntu the default OS... but I don't want to be trapped in Ubuntu for sure.

    Hi Hungry Man,

I think it may work if you multi boot.

Win7 & Win8 both need to be installed to allow boot into WUBI. I think you need to configure with Win8 bootloader with Win7 as the default boot option. This will then display WUBI in menu at startup (If I correctly understand the post from the link below). The guy who made the post states that it worked!

I gave you a link to this thread a couple of days ago in the dual/multi boot poll but you never came back!! It vaguely shows what the user did to allow access to WUBI

If you are successful it would be good if you could past back here and start a new thread on the Ubuntu Forum to show others users how it's done.
