Unfortunately, without you having the ability to look into things directly, there is nothing that can be done for troubleshooting.

    In this case:
Legitimate System-critical files are locally-protected. And if it cannot contact the cloud, it will not activate the keycode and will not scan at all. WSA does not prevent access to its own directory. If an install is blocked, it will alert you to this fact and offer to try to evade the block.

The symptoms you describe are similar to a persistent bootkit. In any case, there is not much that can be done with only secondhand description of data. Even the best description of existing occurring cases can only give a possibility of a root cause, as direct inspection of various logs and conditions are necessary to determine what actually happened. There are enough things in your description that it's nearly impossible to say whether this was software or a threat interfering with WSA or hardware issues or user error. It's very difficult to claim that any could have been caused by WSA directly as several of the described results are not programmatically coded into WSA itself, so it's incapable of such actions.

I'm going to personally have to say that there is not much that can be determined from this given the available information.

I should have thought of Unlocker at the time. I guess you can't always remember everything :)

TF: It was a clean windows install, it was not malware unless windows itself is considered malware. It was a second hand machine, but it was cleaned.

Very true! If you install WSA again and if there any problems please contact support https://www.webrootanywhere.com/servicewelcome.asp before doing anything as they would of helped you in any case and if you wanted then post here and Joe can look into it. Also if you can set up your My Webroot Account with the keycode as support can see what was detected and if it's a FP they can revert it and if it's a true infection they well help you clean it free of charge.

    Best Regards,

    TH

I have always had problems with the account and console for Webroot. I keep getting locked out. Well, that was a year ago but yeah, it kept forgetting my password for whatever reason.

It's a 2 step sign on email address and password and then it asks for and it can change to ask for different letters as it must be a 6 letter Security Code "Please enter the FIRST and SIXTH characters of your Security Code (case sensitive)" and I never had any issues with my online account you just have to remember the 3 things. ;)

I did both times and both times the console never worked. I did as your said, but it simply lost my passwords. Whatever was the problem has probably been fixed now anyway.
