    Help! This is urgent!
I lost my internet connection after tweaking various services via "services.msc" in my XP Pro SP2 laptop!!

Anyone know what particular service(s) rely on LAN connection for wireless networks? I need to re-enable this service(s).

Anyone out there... Please help me!!!

    Hi there

I am no expert but I would recommend that you take a look at the following web page:

    http://www.tweakhound.com/xp/xptweaks/supertweaks6.htm

Have used the detail/recommendations here to configure the services on my rig and you may be able to identify/re-establish what you have 'lost' by comparing what you currently have with what is recommended.

    Hope that this helps?

    Balders :D

PS. This is a very good Windows resource IMHO. ;)

Are you also using Wireless internet connection (LAN connection)?

I'm going to try out the tips from the site.

I really do hope it brings back my internet connection :( :(

Yup, I have a home network, ie, wireless router with desktop hardwired via Ethernet and a couple of laptops running wirelessly.

I have used the tips before and configred the services based on what has been suggested. As you had connectivity and lost it it should not be hard to find it again.

Good luck...and post back either way.

Well, it seems my laptop can read if the connection.

But the problem is, it still won't let me connect to the internet.

I already tried in the Command Console "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew".
It manages to fetch DNS and IP address. But still no internet connection..

    I'll try uninstalling OA Firewall.

If you feel it's likely that the root of the problem lies in your fiddling around with services, have a look at blackviper.com to get an idea how services should be set up by default. You can even opt to download a reg file from him (with sufficient backup coverage) and reset the services in a single step.

    PROBLEM SOLVED!

I had to modify Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties and set to "Obtain DNS automatically".
I had it set on OpenDNS, which conflicted with my IP's own DNS server.

Anyways, thanks for the useful site Baldrick! :D

    Good news indeed! :thumb:

The blackviper.com site that crofttk referred to is also a useful resource to have tucked up in one's back pocket. ;)

Hope that you stick around as it is a great forum. :D
