i just read and learn how easy is to crack a wireless signal in my neighborhood i know of people who signal has been stolen and i known a guy who make money "a lot" doin it
its too hard very very hard but not impossible, the only secure connection is wired http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6834071428554024698#
is so hard to obtain all those codes but this guys are so smart and they have all day on systems and they can figure out the right algorithm but yeah is almost impossible and if they see thats is so long and hard they leave for another easily one but if someone target you the story will can be different but i still prefer wired any day.
I've got Mac Address whitelisting on as well. Personally, I think bad guys would rather target my neighbours.
After doing these things: - update the router firmware to the latest legitimate version; - select the options to use WPA2 only + AES + PSK and a network security key like the second password from this GRC page; - define a password like the second one from the GRC page to access the router and change the router ip address to something different from default; - change the SSID to the bigger secret secure name possible and disable its broadcast; - enable Mac Address Filtering and configure it to restrict access of unknown devices; - turn off DHCP and assign static IP addresses to known devices; - enable the router firewall with all possible secure options like stateful packet inspection and enable software firewall as well; - disable things like WAN Ping Response; I think the wireless connection itself will be secured from most crackers. The more checks that are made, the greater the likelihood of preventing network break-ins.
Yes, but how secure is wired when they can hack your wired keyboard? http://www.zdnet.com/blog/security/researchers-hack-wired-keyboards-hijack-keystrokes/2042 If someone with the skill to do it wants to get you there is nothing you can do about it. Everyone else (99.999%) doesn't know how to pull it off. I used wired most of the time for the increased performance and wireless sometimes with the laptop when it is more convenient. WPA2 and I don't worry about it. Most of my neighbors are in their 70s and I don't think they could hack me if I gave them the password.
Wireless is the only real option for me. I prefer it anyway. I was reading F-Secure's page a while ago & they reckoned that wireless is safer. Either way, I only really have one realistically manageable option.
It would be interesting to know why F secure thinks wirless thinks wireless is safer. Do you have a handy link to that?
