How does dial up come into this equation? It's an internet service not a connection to a router.

Anyway, wired is far superior to wireless, wireless is only good for the casual browsing and downloading.

A wire would present a tripping hazard to my wife and kids when I take my laptop out to the back porch. (The desktop is just too heavy.)

    Safety first!

Ahahaha! :D :thumb: I should have said, where you have the option between both, wired is superior!

Wired! The first thing I do with a new computer is disable wireless.

Wireless with WPA at the moment - but wired seems to be faster sometimes

    wired on desktop.

wireless on laptop with WPA2 most of the time, but obviously wired is faster and more stable.

A desktop and 2 laptops in the house

When the laptops are on I go wireless, when it's just the desktop I go wired, so my choice would have to be for both.

I had to vote wireless only due to on that NOW.

Out of 3 PC's 1 is wireless (W7,64 bit) 2 are hardwired on XP.

Poll assumed one or the other when a "both" option should have been put in IMHO.

Wireless because my computer is upstairs from the router. Using WPA2 with MAC filtering (whitelist).
Sometimes connect wired ethernet on my netbook for uninterrupted downloading.

i use both wired and wireless.
wired is more reliable and is a pain to have cables all over the house.

Which side of the router are you talking about? The WAN or LAN?
As some ISPs offer wireless internet...like Motorola Canopy, etc.

Anyways, I'm on cable internet, so my internet connection comes in as wired.
However, for my LAN, I have both wired and wireless.
I have 3x (plus) PCs which are hard wired..my gaming machine, my sons gaming machine, my router itself (I run linux router distros..currently Astaro for a few weeks to learn it, then back to PFSense), and my occasional VMWare lab.
I also have 1x desktop (the wifes) which is wireless, and 3x wireless laptops...typing from the front porch right now on my laptop sipping my coffee looking at the ocean.

Very similar to my setup: Cable wired into router, router wired to 3 desktops and WAP, WAP to 3 laptops.

Unfortunately, MINUS the ocean view  although my back porch and laptop do get a view of a tree nursery frequented by the occasional herd of whitetail.:)
