    Hi there

After reformatting, installing SP2 and getting a firewall should I then update Windows with the latest patches ( I'll have a lot to download) or should I get an AV running first ?

Which is more immediately critical an unpatched machine or one without AV ?

    Cheers

    Jon

    Hi Jon :)
You should install your AV First before getting your updates from Microsoft. Microsoft now have a validation program in place where an active x will be installed on your computer to check on weather you have a valid license before they will download updates which is nothing to worry about

    Regards

I would install the AV then update that, then go patch your window.
