Either it's not the type of file type it claims to be and is renamed (usually a pretty suspicious thing), or it's a codec that is missing. If you got it in an email, treat it like a poisonous snake, because it very well could bite you.

    Hi dw426,

The e-mail is from a friend, if it is a code that is missing how do I replace it.

No. Unless you managed to delete the codec, it was probably one that was never installed in the first place.

    And its codec, not code.

Agree! WMP in Vista is terrible!
Media Player Classic from CCCP for example or VLC that seems to play almost everything.

Have you successfully played wma files from this friend before BC? Do you know whether it was converted?

Generally these type of files (wma) require a licence to be downloaded to your computer, and they only work on the original computer it was installed on, so sharing these files wont work for you unfortunately :(

Download VLC player. I haven't come across a file it won't play.

    Portable version here:
    http://portableapps.com/news/2008-07-21_-_vlc_media_player_portable_0.8.6i

For example, when your dvd drive will only play a particular region code, VLC player will allow you to play any region on that drive. :thumb:

Not the best looking default interface, but there are plenty of skins for it to look identical to windows media player etc.

I'd also like to add (provided this isn't the type of situation DVD-R is stating, where it's a question of license), that the CCCP codec pack/player will play everything including what VLC will not. http://www.cccp-project.net/
