Isn't that obvious? Only that now they're marketing it as free, like they're doing you a favor.

There are a few things they can do to improve Windows, such as having users to solve a sudoku game to open their files, etc. Maybe a patience solitaire game; I've been playing one that I just can't win, at all. :argh: I think the damn game was coded not to be won. :doubt:

But, yes, Microsoft should make their users exercise their mind... *puppy* You want your file, work for it. :D

Seriously, what gamer wouldn't love that? :D Give me that, and I'll buy Windows 8 and any future versions. ;)

Microsoft: Windows 8.1 is an update, not a service pack

Wild Hunter is just using the same title that Microsoft uses for it's article.

    Yeah I prefer quoting them.

Microsoft is a classical example of a company that has a marketing/communication/whatever department(s) that explain things far better than the sensationalist media IMO.

That's the title that Microsoft gave to the article I quoted.

If you think that it is violating some Wilders Security Forum rule, I suggest reporting the post and/or checking with moderators/administrators.

Actually you edited your post to include that quote after I made this thread (check the times), but it's OK.

I wonder if MS is trying to redefine the "service pack", probably with the intent of eventually charging customers to pay for it in the future. Maybe they're transitioning to a more incremental Windows release schedule that is subscription based?

Yup. A service pack to the disaster called Windows 8. Its an admission of just how terrible Windows 8 is barely a year after its official release.

    no kidding.

just that they would mention that this service pack is free probably means the other ones will not be.

I still think they're moving toward doing a subscription thing with Windows... it's just a matter of time as to when.. But I do think it's coming.
