    That is the error response. I was installing a piece of sound recording software called Melodyne, and when I tried to open the program, the front page opened, but then I got messages to register and update, which is fair enough; but after I had finished, I got the above error response.

    I figure that the registration/update popups caused Windows (7-64) to think that the thing was malfunctioning, and so it applied 'compatibility settings,' when they probably were not necessary.

    Can I turn the compatibility setting OFF/ON to see if they are really necessary? If so, how?
