    *shock horror*

But it can't fail - loads of people have told me that it won't be any inconvenience to legit users of Windows...

What error message do you get as to why the installation failed? Is there anything in your system or application event logs? (Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Event Viewer)

i don't know if you have the same problem i did with Windows Genuine Advantage, but i could never download anything which needed its confirmation without making changes to Internet Options>Programs>Manage Add-Ons. i think i needed to enable WGA.

this was when WGA first came out, i'm not sure if there's a new version now.

Here's a new twist on this for restricted account users:

    http://www.informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=187200186

I have successfully validated MS Windows XP Pro as the Administrator on both my machines. Unable to validate as a resitricted account user. Brought this up to HP over a year ago and they sent me to Microsoft. Microsoft wanted $ to fix. Here is what system information in my restricted user account has to say about activiation status:

"Activation Status ------------- Activation Pending (30 days remaing)"

It's been like this in my restricted user accounts since I purchased my PC with MS Windows XP Pro/Home.

It could be the restricted account problem mentioned above. Are you running as an administrator, or as a limited user?
