Shortly after instaling the trial version of NOD32 I started having problems with Windows Explorer giving me an error and shutting down.

I don't know if the two are connected, but maybe someone else has had a similar problem.

I did notice there's now and NOD32 shell extension in Windows Explorer.

    Hello sir gerald,

    What OS are you running?

Go to both the Application and System logs in the Windows event viewer.

What's mentioned in those error messages?

BF ... I'm running XP with SP2 and all the latest updates.

The event viewer shows ... "Faulting application explorer.exe 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module explorer.exe, fault address 0x00139f8".

Not sure if this is what you're referring to but the Counter Logs and Trace Logs don't have any entries in them.
