    Hello All:

I have been a lurker here and have learned a lot - thanks!

    Hope you can help me.

Via email, my daughter sent me a file with a .AIF extension. I downloaded it and right-clicked it to try do do a virus scan first and got: "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. etc., etc.".

So, I next tried to delete the file and same thing [windows explorer has encountered a problem . . .].

Then, I tried to delete it in Safe Mode with the same results.

I succeeded in deleting it by deleting the folder it was in [and then added the folder back in].

So, I did a full system scan using Norton Internet Security 2009 - it found nothing.

I also did a Google search for the file extension and found out from fileext.com that this is a Mac file.

Now, whenever I try to delete ANY file, or right-click any file, explorer crashes in the same manner.

UPDATE: I ran sfc /scannow at a command prompt and that also accomplished nothing.

I am running XP Pro SP2.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated, or is it time to reformat and reinstall?

    Thanks again,
    Bob Miller

    Steve:

Thank you - that solved the problem!

The "culprit" was Novatix ExplorerPlus - a Windows explorer replacement program.

I will uninstall it and re-install it.

    Again, Thanks and . . .

    Best Regards,
    Bob Miller
