Windows 7 Hangs (14)

After installing Returnil on a new machine and activating Virtual Mode, Windows 7 hangs at "Starting Windows". (The Windows logo continues moving, but hard disk activity stops.)
This happens with the newest (14) as well as an older (13) version of rss 2011.

Removing Returnil returns Windows 7 to normal operation.

Via Last Known Good Configuration, Windows can be entered -and- Returnil will work as if there is no problem at all.

Is there a list of known issues and incompatibilities?

hp Notebook, 64bit Dual Core, 2Ghz, 3GB RAM
25GB Partition, 13GB in use, no pagefile. Windows 7 (U) 32bit

Though Returnil seemed the obvious cause, it now seems more likely there is an underlying problem with either hardware, or something at the system level.

I would prefer to keep the thread open and get your feedback once you have completed investigating your potential hardware issue. It would be helpful for others who might run into a similar problem and having an example of the cause and solution would be greatly appreciated for reference.
