Both of my machines booted and shut down really slow after upgrading over Win7 but a clean install and a new SSD fixed that. ;)

I have been connecting my laptop to a bigger monitor via DVI. Last week I connected laptop to a projector via HDMI. Since then when I boot up or wake up my laptop the secondary monitor stays black and I cannot get the screen to work. However as soon as I disconnect the secondary monitor, the laptop's screen immediately works. I tried to gain some information and it looks that after Win 10 has been connected once via HDMI, it searches then for a HDMI device and it surpasses DVI and VGA connections. Btw, my Win 10 and all drivers are up to date. Does anyone have this issue?

From my previous post today ... Anyone have Trusteer Rapport running on W10 - if so, which browser are you using it with ?

Had to make a few calls and just found out that only the IBM version of Trusteer Rapport runs on W10. Not on Edge as far as I could find out. It runs on IE 11/ desktop mode.

Resolved. I bought a new HDMI monitor instead of DVI.

I don't know if this is a problem or a 'feature' but I have had Candy Crush 'Suggested' on my Start screen and I have already right-clicked it and chose Don't show this suggestion but it came back anyway.

I have now disabled the setting [Settings > Personalisation > Start] to Occasionally show suggestions in Start, but if you told Windows not to show that suggestion already you should not see it again, right?

@Krusty13 Isn't Candy Crush included with Windows 10, rather than being a suggestion? I never got Candy Crush installed when I upgrade to Windows 10, but I've seen it on many other laptops.

Roger, it is one of the first applications I remove on a Win10 installation. Maybe Windows wants it back.

    Cortana suffering from separation anxiety.

Windows 10 DPI Fix essentially fixes blurry fonts in the same way Windows 8.1 does. It works. Given that a FHD screen is now becoming the standard, it is pathetic the way Windows handles scaling. While the individual software developers are a big part of the problem, Microsoft simply needs to fix this.

New since installing Windows 10 on one laptop is that I get a loud 'crack' when shutting down or restarting my machine through my external speakers. I know I could shut the speakers down first but this wasn't an issue with Win7.

    Hello!

I have upgraded Win 10 to 1511 and it looks I need your help again :)
This time I cannot delete c:\Windows.old\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\IntcDAud.sys and c:\Windows.old\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\intcdaud.inf_amd64_f76199cadbc2cd99\IntcDAud.sys

Do you know what needs to be disabled in Device Manager to get them delete?

This question isn't solely for @corneredrat, so anyone's help is welcome.

    Thanks!

C:\Windows.old shouldn't be used by anything on the running system, it's a backup folder with old windows files (eg previous install). You're likely facing NTFS permissions set to TrustedInstaller and if so you just need to take ownership before you can modify/delete them.

Yeah, I agree with a small correction. It isn't used but locked by. I had this issue when upgrading from 8.1 to 10 and the advice of @corneredrat to disable temporarily Digital Accelerometer helped to delete the remnants. I'm hundred percent sure that it is the same issue now but I need to know which driver (from Device Manager) has locked the files this time.

EDIT: Resolved! This time it was easier. I was able to delete these files with administrator rights. Then deleting Windows.old dir was an easy task.

I upgraded to the new build of Windows, and then uninstalled StartIsBack++, and now I have no Start Menu. Neither pressing the Windows key or clicking on Start Menu will open it. Also pressing Windows + X now does nothing.

StartIsBack did not uninstall properly so I removed all the traces with IObit Uninstaller. When the Start Menu did not work after restarting, I reinstalled StartIsBack++ and this time its uninstaller did work, but still I had no Start Menu. I've tried some fixes I found which did not help. I then did a sfc /scannow which found no issues. Next, I ran the Repair Component Store and Restore COM+ Unmarshalers repairs in Tweaking.com's Windows Repair.

But, I'm still left with no Start Menu.

The only thing i can think of short of a reset is the following command in admin powershell.

    Code:
    Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

@TS4H Thanks, but I've already tried that one with no success. It was the first fix I found when looking on Google.

My Windows.old folder disappeared spontaneously today. I didn't do anything.

@stapp Right now, I can't even create a new user account - I get an error. As I type this I'm doing more repairs with Windows Repair.

Did you use the Windows Repair option to do the repairs in safe mode? They seem to work quicker that way.

I'm assuming you're doing the file and reg permissions fixes? (but not at the same time as using the machine !)

@stapp I ended up doing them in safe mode becuase my antivirus was blocking some actions. But, I still have no Start Menu.
I did the file and registry fixes a few days ago.

Are you still not able to create a new user?
