If you reserved a copy of W10, it states that it will be AUTOMATICALLY DOWNLOADED via Windows Update and you can SCHEDULE THE INSTALL whenever you chose.

Today this is contrary to what WSUS allows - you can delay the download but not the install. Unfortunately this has lead to a lot of confusion and speculation. MS is vague on this contradiction and have not really clarified what changes are being made to accommodate this reversal.

I have read that MS will be sending out W10 related prerequisites via windows update after July 29 for those who reserved W10 and that it could take several weeks before you actually have W10 ready to install. This seems to imply that these updates will be presented as available downloads and not auto downloads because you still have either W7 or W8 installed . It stands to reason that there has to be a newer version of WSUS in the prereq updates for the mother-load update (3GB) to ignore the 'I chose when to download' setting.

Do you get the feeling MS don't know what they are doing and are making it up as they go?

There feedback on what you send as feed back is totally useless. It is clearly a set answer they give everyone. So far from what I have experience is I see no gain over my W7 setup, but lots of pain with W10 going forward.

The insider program was a simple stringing along IMO. Maybe to see how close to MS ideals W10 could be kept.

This is what I see too.. just the fact that the little Win 10 tray thing isn't working on many people's machines does not inspire much confidence in their ability to provide a smooth upgrade experience. I'm sticking with 7 for now. From everything I've heard and seen, 10 just looks like a disaster waiting to happen. No thanks...

I agree with you. Even if OS itself will be great, the way they try to upgrade all Windows 7 and Windows 8 users can really become one big disaster. Thinking about taking few days off at the beginning of August.

I was excited about the possibilities of W10 but for the same reasons as others have posted here --- new update scheme, contradictory and missing explanations from MSFT, excessive monetization, etc.. --- that's no longer the case. I'll hold for now. Thank you to everyone who has posted here and elsewhere about W10.

I will be sticking with Windows 7 also. Just don't have a good feeling about all the mass updating thing. Will check back in 2020.

  11. I read some people complaining about news and ads being pushed (through Bing when I recal correctly) with Windows 10. Is this true?

You see an ad in some apps like in windows 8.1. See for example the weather app: http://i.imgur.com/ZKjpRha.jpg

  13. Thx interesting combination (Whether app text looks like a skandinavian language, but whether is from Amsterdam) :D

Yes only Scandinavian ads on my Dutch Windows 10. It must be the same for Microsoft... somewhere in Europe :argh:
Because it is not the finished product yet, maybe we get lucky and see Dutch ads on Dutch Windows.
The ads themselves don't bother me.
Emsisoft Anti-Malware is capable of blocking some in game ads on windows 8.1. I saw that in the logs on my sons laptop.
Unfortunately EAM doesn't run well for me on Windows 10.
So there is a chance I won't see any ads.

Looks like a big disaster that is best avoided, looks like Microsoft hasn't learned from their own past. I can wait

Correct, just this past week the modern/metro apps Weather, News, Sports and Money have added SSL encrypted advertisements throughout every tab.

My concern is how far that advertising will stretch, eg. Start menu, Lock Screen, etc. That is my worry since the framework is technically in place.

I'll upgrade on day 1. If there are problems I can just restore a backup image taken prior to July 29.

I don't expect problems as I'm very impressed with Win8 to Win10 upgrades so far. Everything works just like it did prior to the upgrade. And of interest, after you cleanup the C: drive there is more Free Space than before the upgrade.

    Iv had issues receiving this Windows 10 notification in Windows update, after searching online for possible causes and fixes I came across the following article;

    http://www.cnet.com/au/how-to/how-to-get-the-windows-10-upgrade-icon-if-its-missing/

After running the file, and follwing the commands, I was able to reserve a copy.

So for those of you who are having issues reserving your copy of Windows 10, please check this out.

    Regards.

  23. I have an Asus T100 for over one and a half year now. With classic shell installed it behaves as a PC (with mini-mouse in USB port). When you use it as a tablet, I fall back to metro. I also have Metro on my Windows phone. So I did not understand all the fuzz about win 8.1. When I am able to remove or disable those Metro apps, I will be using Win10 on all devices (pro on laptop and desktop, home on transformer and my Windows 640 phone). So I am trying to understand the fuzz about Win10 also. Thanks for replying.

Right now I'm in Wait & See mode, Windows 10 is free up to 1 year from release date. From then on you have to pay for Windows 10 whatever the model Microsoft chooses disk or download or both.
