I don't use Windows 8, but on the face of it the Windows 10 firewall looks exactly the same as the Windows 7 firewall.

Cool, thanks for this tweak. BTW, I've just read that in the newest Win 10 version, the start menu differs from earlier versions. At first it was a true "old skool" start menu, but now it's basically the much hated Metro interface screen, disguised as the new start menu. Now I know for sure, the developers (and especially Joe Belfiore) are complete idiots.

As with previous builds, all of the "live tiles" can be removed from the Start Menu in the latest Insider Preview build 10074 , so I'm not sure what you mean when you say it differs from earlier versions and is now the much hated Metro interface screen.

I haven't tested Win 10 for a while, so I started with the latest ISO and updated it. Overall it's a huge step forward (or back if you want) from win 8 and I like most of what I encountered but I still have a few issues with it starting at the updates and an inability to 'select' which ones to install! This is a mega-disaster in the making IMO considering the last few months of persistent update issues with the same KBs (one of which prevented newer updates from being made available!) which only show that the QA isn't where it should be for such a system to be put in place!

A paranoid mind might think this was intentional so that while the OS is free, the support to help you 'bounce back' from such a bad patch or resolve other issues may not be...

Aside from that I noticed two UI quirks that sprung up in W8 and still exist in W10 and from what I've found it's suggested that MS thinks these are 'features' rather than bugs...mhhmm.... I may as well elaborate here as I'm rambling anyway so here we go.

The first issue I had on W8 that still exists is that when I launch a program or take an action such as deleting something (with the prompt enabled), the alert/window is sent 'behind' the current app, say I launch an installer through explorer, instead of launching it and bringing it to the front as expected it gets sent 'behind' explorer and I then have to navigate to the taskbar and select it to see the window. When an installer doesn't immediately add anything to the taskbar I am forced to resort to use alt+tab just to find it. (example: installers that ask for you to select a language) I find this VERY unproductive and unhelpful. How is this a feature exactly?

The second UI issue revolves around the notification area where once again starting with W8 and persisting into W10... occasionally when right clicking it doesn't properly detect the app icon I had been hovering over. Instead it gives me a right click menu for the taskbar (or another nearby app) that cannot be 'clicked out of' until I select an option from the shown menu even though it isn't the one I wanted in the first place.

All my tests for these cases were done on clean installs with latest updates, 0 3rd party software or tweaks! With Windows 7 these things works perfectly in both regards...I just don't get it, I don't like it and these 3 issues are certainly enough to keep me from jumping on the W10 band wagon for now...UI issues I could possibly get over, but the updates, nope!

Add me to the complete idiot group as I think the Win8/10 Start Menu is better than the Win7 one.

Yes by default that's how it looks, but all you have to do is right click on any/all of the tiles to remove them so that you can have just the narrow strip showing folders and shortcuts. At that point it's quite limited though. Classic Shell is still the better choice for a Windows 7 style Start Menu IMHO.

You can resize the Tiles or uninstall the app just like in Windows 8.1 , some of my apps didn't work like the one for Skype.

Windows 10 Pro: A desktop version of Windows 10 for mobile workers, tech enthusiasts and other power users. This version is one of at least two -- the other being Windows 10 Enterprise -- that will allow users to opt for Windows Update for Business. Windows Update for Business will allow admins to opt to not receive all feature and security updates from Microsoft immediately after they are available.

Like I said, perhaps I misunderstood. On Extreme Tech it looks like it should, but on this link it looks different, sort of like a mini Metro app-screen. So are there different looks?

Perhaps I am misunderstanding as well so bear with me. I've looked at the two screenshots and other than the differences in tile size and shape the Start Menus look the same to me.

Anyone know if there will be a Release Preview as they did with Win 7 and 8? Or is the Tech Preview all that there is/was before final release?

I am not exactly sure of that. Microsoft plans to give Windows 10 away for free, as they want to make money off of the apps, games, in-app purchases and add revenue from the apps that run on Windows 10. So it is in Microsoft's interest to have as many users running Windows 10 as possible. They will never say it outright, but they will be hoping that Windows 10 is "Pirated" as much as possible, so it reaches all nooks and crannies of the world.
