Wow, that is awful. I guess they thought it didn't look bad enough.

I'm not liking the monochrome window theme either.

OMG! If that's what they're doing to it, then there's no way I'll ever use or buy a machine with 10 on it. That's horrific!

No wonder they're giving W10 away.

Yeah hopefully they are just temporary icons that will be changed but I still say this is MS's revenge on all the Metro-ModernUI haters

If that's the case, then it's also the end of MS... haha...

I tried Windows 10, uninstalled it and then did a full system recovery but it created extra partitions I can't get rid of so it will be a long time before I test it again.

I've heard that even other icons are complaining about how bad those Win 10 icons are. :argh:

OK. Can you post a screenshot of Disk Management? Mention which are the rogue partitions you would like to remove.

    sportsfan7700,

Thanks, but more information is needed I'm afraid. Can you expand the Status column as I need to see all the text inside the brackets.

Can you right click in the Disk 0 Basic square. Click Properties, Volumes tab. What is the "Partition Style"?

How did you do the "full system recovery"? Was it an image restore?

Edit... Which partitions did you try to remove?

    sportsfan7700,

All partitions are OK except for the phantom RECOVERY (D: ) without NTFS in the line. Does it have a Delete Volume option when you right click the line?

    Hi Brian,

Sorry for the delay, been moving my brother all day. I do not see a delete volume option, when I click on that partition I only see help (I'm looking at the top), but is there another place I need to look?

    I didn't expect a Delete option.

Can you look at the partitions with a BootIt Bare Metal CD or UFD. I'm familiar with BIBM. Let's see if that phantom partition is visible and if so we should be able to remove it.

    Download the trial BIBM...

    http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/downloads-bootit-bare-metal.htm

    unzip
    double click makedisk.exe, next
dot in BootIt Bare Metal, next
dot in I accept the agreement, next
don't select Image for DOS (GUI), next
dot in Mouse Support Enabled, next
    dot in VESA Video, next
dot in Video Mode 1024*768 - 64K Colors, next
dot in Partition Work (Don't put a dot in Normal), next
don't choose any Device Options, next
tick in Enable USB 1.1 (UHCI), next
tick in Align partitions on 1MiB Boundaries, next
    ignore Additional bootitbm.ini Options, next
select your CD burner drive letter (you can use a CD-RW or a CD-R disc)
    Finish

for flash drives instead of a CD ...
    select your UFD drive letter
for USB Layout select "Partition - MBR FAT/FAT32 Partition (Int13h Extensions)"
for Geometry Calculation Method select "Default - Use Device"
    Finish

Boot BIBM in MBR (Legacy) mode, it doesn't boot in UEFI mode.
It boots into Work with Partitions. You will see...
    Bus BIOS
    Drives 0 - BIOS HD.....
You should see "GPT Partitions" above the big white rectangle
What's in the big white rectangle? Partition name, Partition size in MiB and File System.

    It looks like this....

You aren't showing file extensions. It makes life easier if you show extensions because there are two makedisk files in the download. To show file extensions, double click "This PC", View, Options, View tab, remove the tick in "Hide extensions for known file types", click OK.

Now it's time to unzip the download.

    Right click the downloaded "bootitbm_en_trial.zip"
    Extract All
put a tick in "Show extracted files when complete"
    Extract
You are now in the "bootitbm_en_trial" folder (just created). It contains 12 files
You will see makedisk.cfg and makedisk.exe
    Double click makedisk.exe
