A follow up on this... that was absolutely it. We had an internet outage right before this happened and it started when it came back on line. They seem to have given us an IP that resolves to the next state, which is in the next time zone. Auto time zone might be nice for a traveler with a portable device, but for a desktop that isn't going anywhere, it is nothing but trouble.

You can bet they probably won't.... I clean installed the latest ISO 1511 and find that some things have improved a lot (install time for example), but there is still a LOT of little glitches/bugs/gotchas... I don't know if I can stick with this in it's present form...

I can bet they will. Enterprise customers will complain the registry editor doesn't work and they will patch it. Just don't know how long. Beyond this issue, I find this build to be much better than the previous one. This one boots very fast for me and has stabilized some machines that would regularly BSOD with Windows 7. Of course, like everything, YMMV. Broken stuff is what keeps me in a job. ;)

Yeah, I think everyone's experience is different. I have installed (clean) this 1511 build twice now, and each time is a different experience, with different quirks and bugs and problems. Honestly, for me, this new build is worse. I just tried to log in with my pin, and after 30 seconds got some absurd error message about group policy and an invalid UUID or some such thing, and then it logged me out. That's when I pulled the plug, and said goodbye for good to Windows. 7 is now too much trouble, and 10 seems like a bug fest, which can't ever be cleaned up because you just can't fix a moving target like 10. Every change they make will introduce twice as many new bugs, and so on.

I'm trying to be fair here.. I wanted to like 10, and I wanted to use 10, but after 3+ months and 2 releases, I find that I just can't use it. Too much trouble.

For me, Linux is now my solution. Works well for my needs, and much less hassles overall.

    But yes, YMMV. :)

Interesting you are having so much trouble with it. I went from Windows 8.1 to 10 to this build. Seems to be mostly fine on my desktop and laptop. The problems I have had have been few and consistent to both machines. I have upgraded several machines at work (probably 6) and they have been fine, except 1 today where the start menu stopped working but that was easy to fix after a little googling.

Hi All, I created a WIN10 MS account so I could install apps from the Store. Creating the MS account went smooth. I accessed the Store and attempted to install the Facebook app, and the progress bar went two thirds across the window and stopped moving. It still sits there. when I attempted to install a dictionary it says pending. It still says pending. When I first did the upgrade to WIN10 a few weeks ago there was a Weather app on the tiles that worked. One day it crapped out, and now that I have the MS Account it wont access again. I have a feeling there's a setting somewhere that needs to be turned on or something, but scouring the Settings I don't see anything. The only thing I do see is on System settings>Storage>Save Locations>New apps will save to> This PC (C) is greyed out and I don't see a way you activate the setting, if indeed that's something to do with my problem. Can anyone help me with my problem? Thanks.

I just upgraded my main laptop to build 1511 from an ISO since Windows Update was still having issues. The three year old driver for my ATI video got update to recent one which was incompatible. This lead to Windows using a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver, even though the ATI video was showing no errors in Device Manager. I restored a backup of the working driver with Driver Talent which fixed the driver issues.

SpyBot Search & Destroy launches its installer whenever I start Windows, and says it need to be reinstalled as it was removed during the upgrade. Since I don't use it, I haven't proceeded with the install. Other than that, I haven't found any other issues as of yet. Ive just ditched StartIsBack++ to use the standard Start Menu for a while, since the improved Start Menu should be able to show all my software now.

@twl845 You don't need a Microsoft account to download apps if you're using build 1511. I'm still not going to download any though, now that I can.

I have been holding off, and was thinking of upgrading my 8.1 to 10 after TH2, but reading many of the comments here, I really am not sure.

Will give it a go when I'm feeling strong. After a Macrium image of course :)
Edit: Will probably go the ISO route, and uninstall especially security apps beforehand.

I converted the ISO to a UFD with Rufus and did the lot using a UFD. Run as Admin (setup.exe). Nothing was uninstalled before the upgrades. But I just had Defender and Malwarebytes. You can upgrade a fast computer in 20 minutes.

I upgraded MBR and UEFI systems. Most, not all, gained an extra Recovery partition.

I'm still waiting for the 1511 update. They say I will get it in December because I did the WIN10 upgrade only 3 weeks ago. Can you help me with my issue?

I have been following these threads though on Win 10 and installed it as a dual boot with Win 8.1 on my laptop, but I cannot see anything must have about it or that I like. For me 8.1 works consistently and have customised it to my liking.

I have turned off updates and have sytem images I can go back to, which I often do as well.

I would use Linux but have too many essential programs in Win to forgo, and Linux is too much based on the command line for my liking/understanding.

Are you wanting to upgrade now? If so, use the Media Creation Tool and one of the options will be to upgrade the current machine you are on. You can download the ISO, but if you want to just upgrade 1 machine picking the upgrade now option is much faster.

Yes, there's no reason/benefit in waiting for the update to come through the internal updater.

    hi
    it's hard to don't hate w10

    1) now w10 update downloads device drivers , even i have disabled it via registry and via Hardware tab
    2) as soon as i check for new updates, windows 10 start to download and install them , even my policy are Set Windows Update to Notify before Downloading and Installing any Updates

Thanks for your response. I have the WIN10 upgrade running. I have to wait for the 1511 update which most people have since November 13th until December 13th or there abouts. My inquiry was as in post #2282. I have just read my answer in an article that says the Store storage is greyed out because it won't be activated until I get the update. We'll see.

@twl845 As @xxJackxx posted, you don't have to wait. Just download the Media Creation Tool and you can upgrade to the latst build right now.

Yeah, it's weird, because the original release in July for me was much cleaner than this 1511 build. But there you go, every machine is different. I am truly frustrated with Windows in general. The other thing I noticed about 10 is that every time I clean installed it (did it maybe 6 times since July), I get different results, which is crazy. The only thing I can think of that would cause this, is that it's connecting to literally dozens of different servers for different reasons and purposes, and perhaps things are glitching or inconsistent from one time to the next due to server inconsistencies or changes. Otherwise it makes no sense.

Anyhow, I'm taking a break now and using Linux (Ubuntu, Debian or Mint), who knows, maybe forever. I am having a VERY negative impression of 10 overall after these 3+ months of using it. I don't think I'm alone either. :)

Yeah. I admit that it's a bit old, and it's not all that powerful, but it seemed to run 10 pretty well with the initial release. I get different results every time I install it, which is just weird. It was that way with the first release too. They seemed to be relying heavily on a LOT of servers to do different things, so perhaps it's natural that something glitches or screws up here and there, I don't know.

Set colored title bars but keep black taskbar and Start menu in Windows 10
    http://winaero.com/blog/set-colored-title-bars-but-keep-black-taskbar-and-start-menu-in-windows-10/

This is something that many users have wanted and Winaero team seems to have figured out a way to make a pleasant looking Windows 10 desktop. Whenever we change the option added recently to Windows 10 to add color to the window borders, it also makes the entire taskbar and Start menu look absolutely hideous. So this change allows you to keep the black taskbar and decent looking Start menu while adding simple color to the window borders. Silly how Microsoft wasn't able to figure this out or allow us to customize the desktop more. I am quite satisfied now with my Windows 10 desktop after applying this fix.
