    To update with the Media Creation Tool would I just let it run, download the upgrade, and let it do its thing? Is it that simple - just choose "upgrade this PC" instead of "create ISO File?"

    There are several comments on the Microsoft Support site that doing this installed Win 10, not 1607. I guess maybe they did this too early in the day

    I started to try this method, but after having read the comments I was nervous and stopped the operation.

    The Anniversary update seams to have reinstalled startpage apps like grove music; Get office; Reader. So if you deleted any of these you better check to see if their still deleted and better all your settings/customization to see if there still the way you left them. I had a shortcut for the Group policy editor on my desktop after the update it disappeared.

    @hawki

    I downloaded the Media Creation tool, then double-clicked on the .exe in my downloads and let it do its thing.

    Yes, just select 'Upgrade this PC'

    The build you will get will be the Anniversary Update, as you said those who got the original Win 10 via the tool did it too early before the release.

    Now that there's a dedicated topic, I'm bringing over my post from another topic...

    -
    Regarding Windows 10 Anniversary update, here are my observations and dislikes.

    --
    My customizations was reverted for the following;

    Desktop Wallpaper - Reset
    Store Apps - 'Some' removed pre-installed Apps were re-installed.
    Task Manager - Reset

    System Restore been disabled. Originally reported by anon, confirmed by me.
    Task Scheduler

    \Microsoft\Windows\Application Experience\* - Reset
    \Microsoft\Windows\Customer Experience Improvement Program\* - Reset

    Noticed with other's customizations;

    Mouse Cursor - Reset
    Desktop Wallpaper - Certain condition, Wallpaper customization sticks. 4/5 It doesn't.

    Misc. Concerns

    Microsoft Edge;

    * Print Selection is still missing. I don't understand why Microsoft doesn't take this seriously. I don't enjoy spending out money for printer Ink. Anything other-than right-clicking on highlighted area, and selecting 'Print Selection', is a waste of a person's time.

    * Microsoft Edge now isn't using Internet shortcuts (*.URLs), it uses single encrypted ESE database file. You can use a reg-hack and force Edge to use the old way. I know there's few who likes to open up to Favourites location and run URL files to their desired destinations. Apparently this reg-hack isn't any-longer working

    * Edge Favourites Bar; When viewing inside a folder, sub-folder viewing is restricted, instead clicking on the sub-folder is a requirement to have the side-bar appear and open up to that location for viewing.

    I have mixed feelings about this. I rather not have to click and look to the right of my screen every-time. The IE way was better when you can hover over sub-folder and It shows its contents.
    ... on the bright side, extensions support exists. Also filtering ads and banners now possible.

    Any particular scenario to reproduce this? I've repeatedly used Microsoft Photos app and had no issues thus far.

    Having Photos as default photo viewer, so when trying to open a photo the application swiftly flashes and immediately crashes. I had to change the defult viewer to Windows Photos.

    Photos registry settings or associated files corrupted. In any-case using Windows Troubleshooter and run it for ' Windows Store Apps '.

    Then using PowerShell remove the Photos App and re-install it from the Store app.

    Just in case it helps anyone...
    My 2 home machines (desktop and surface pro 4) auto updated last night all fine
    my work laptop today didnt have any updates waiting for it... tried to manually update using iso, flashpen or the tool from MS, all failed .. dont know why but for some reason my windows install was marked as a portable install
    (dell e5420 i5 with a 512gb m2 ssd)
    then found this...

    http://www.thewindowsclub.com/fix-cant-install-windows-usb-flash-drive-setup-upgrading-windows-8-1

    had to change a reg key
    • From the Desktop screen press Win + R
    • Type in Regedit
    • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
    • Change the value PortableOperatingSystem to “0” from 1.

    That's odd, because I was running Kaspersky 2017 edition released just a few days ago... you'd think they were prepared for the Anniversary update...

    Still no luck upgrading from 1511 to 1607 (at least ten attempts).

    A clean install on a different partition went just fine (at the first try), so ISO and my PC are OK.

    Where can I find some good troubleshooting information?

    Was not able to update. Tried about 4 times and each failed. Ending up doing a clean install from the ISO and all is ok.

    I'm almost considering doing the same. But there's so much I have to re-install/configure then...

    Windows 10 Enterprise x64 installed without issues via Windows Update.

    But it broke a couple things:
    1. Had to reinstall my Wireless Network Drivers as it wasn't working
    2. Had to reinstall my Bluetooth software as my BT Mouse stopped working
    3. Had to reinstall my Sound card software as the Volume control was broken

    Just for a FYI, Emsisoft is saying you will not be able to run two AVs including Win Defender together in Win 10 AU. Fabian is stating that Win 10 AU will auto disable all AVs except one.

    Yes I did, and it removed it all except for the folder with what looks like a couple of audio drivers. Only 926 KB left in it.

    On my rig, Windows Defender user interface is slow to open up when I click open. Takes 10 seconds or longer for the interface to open, and before the update it was immediate like it should be. Is this happening to anybody else?

    Edit: Forgot to mention I am opening it from the Windows Defender icon I have in the system tray. From the Settings/Update and security/Windows Defender page it opens immediately.

    I hear you but in the end for me it was worth it. I always prefer a clean install anyway.

    Hi All

    I have upgraded to Win 10 Anniversary update. I have deleted the Windows.old file successfully, but I not that there is another folder called Windows 10Upgrade.

    Can this folder be deleted?

    Thanks

    Terry
